Pacific Rim is an upcoming science fiction kaiju film directed by Guillermo Del Toro based on a screenplay by Travis Beacham. The film is set in the future where soldiers piloting giant robots battle against giant monsters who have mysteriously risen five miles beneath the ocean. The film will be an homage to the giant monster movies from Japan, known as the kaiju genre. Del Toro has said the film will be "a beautiful poem to giant monsters".[1]

Release
The film was originally set for a July 2013 release but was moved forward a couple months early. The film will be released May 10, 2013.
