Maybach Music Group (MMG) is a record label founded by rapper Rick Ross. It is currently distributed by Warner Bros. Records, which took over distribution following the expiration of a deal with Def Jam Recordings.

Overview

Maybach Music Group released its first album in 2009 following Rick Ross's Deeper Than Rap. After the release, Ross focused more on signing artists to his label, in the process discovering musicians such as Masspike Miles. He subsequently signed Gunplay (born Richard Morales) from Miami, Masspike Miles (born Miles Wheeler) from Boston, Torch (born Kevin Belnavis) from the Bronx, and Young Breed to Maybach Music Group. Ross also released his label's second studio album, Triple C's debut album Custom Cars & Cycles.

In 2010, MMG issued Teflon Don, with another album titled Color, Cut & Clarity by Triple C's also scheduled for distribution.

That same year, Ross made an offer to rapper Wiz Khalifa to sign to Maybach Music Group. Khalifa was already signed with Atlantic Records.[2]

In 2011, Ross confirmed that he intended to launch Maybach Music Jamaica along with Maybach Music Latino.[3] He also signed Maybach Music Group's first reggae artist, Magazeen.

On May 23, 2011, Maybach Music Group released the album Self Made Vol. 1, featuring Rick Ross, Meek Mill, Pill and Wale.

It was also reported that New York rapper French Montana was in talks with MMG about possibly joining the label. He wound up signing with Bad Boy Records in 2011.[4] However, the artist has stated that the Maybach Music Group would have been his second choice of company had he not signed with Bad Boy.[5] Montana still maintains strong ties with MMG, and Rick Ross is slated to executive produce his debut album.[4]

On February 4, 2012, in an interview with MTV, Ross stated that he is trying to sign Emilio Rojas and Dom Kennedy to his Maybach Music West imprint.

On April 3, 2012, former G-Unit Records artist Young Buck is slated to drop a mixtape with MMG's Aone Beats called Bond Money. As of February 2012 it is still unclear whether Young Buck is signed as an artist or just managed by Rick Ross and MMG. However Buck plans on dropping his third studio album Ghetto Inspiration in the summer of 2012 through his own label Ca$hville Records and Maybach Music Group aswell.[6][7]
