The Toronto Transit Commission is building its Ashbridges Bay Carhouse to house and service its 204 Bombardier Flexity Outlook Light Rail Vehicles.[1] Six sites were considered, and Toronto City Council made the final choice of the Ashbridges Bay site, at the southeast corner of Leslie Street and Lake Shore Boulevard, was made on November 11, 2009. While the existing Roncesvalles Carhouse and Russell Carhouse will house some of the vehicles, the maintenance facilities at these older facilities can't current accommodate the new vehicles, which are considerably longer the TTC's older streetcars.[2]

The first vehicles are scheduled to enter service in 2013, and the carhouse is scheduled to be ready to service them.[2]

The other five sites under consideration were[1]: one east of Heward Avenue, between Eastern Avenue and Lake Shore Boulevard; two on Commissioner Street, just east and just west of the turning basin; two on Unwin Avenue, the first just east of Regatta Road, and the other the western portion of the old Hearn Generating Station property.
