St. Francis School, founded in 1978, is an English Medium, co-educational school established and directed by the Third Order of Saint Francis, Third Order Regular (T.O.R.) Franciscan Society, a registered charitable society, having its headquarters at Ranchi, Jharkhand. The school has classes from nursery to X std., and is affiliated with the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination, New Delhi.

Staffed by dedicated and qualified Sisters, Fathers and Brothers, the T.O.R. Franciscan Society runs several schools in India in which young people belonging to every creed, social class, community and linguistic group are educated through the medium of English language and the regional languages. These institutions are part of the Catholic Church's effort to share in the country's educational undertaking. The effort, while particularly responsible for the Christian community, has always been at the service of the whole nation. Recognised as a Christian Minority Institution, the primary purpose of the school is to educate Christian children. However, children belonging to other religions are also admitted. The religious beliefs of all students are treated with equal respect.

Unique facilities

Smartclass

St. Francis School is one of the very few schools in Ranchi that has converted all classrooms into Smartclasses. The school has entered into a contract with HCL Digischool, an outstanding service provider in the education sector. With the new arrangement, every classroom in the school is equipped with a PC, Projector, and an Interactive Smartboard that enables teaching in a more child-centered way. The set-up in each class is linked by a LAN to a server that is the storehouse of a wide array of educational content. The entire syllabi of classes, Nursery to upper grades, are available in this content. Teachers use the Smartboards for teaching purposes, to store lessons, and to demonstrate the ready-made content available on the server. With this facility, learning has become a multisensory exercise where visual learners are better accommodated.

English Language laboratory

Another addition of technology-facilitated education is an English Language laboratory. This application allows the student to improve his or her spoken language by hearing and practicing correct pronunciation. They are able to then check their progress in a personalized manner. The Language Lab has a number of P.C.s with ear phones and speakers for each. Students listen to the audio content, and then repeat the lesson, while the software forms a platform for guiding each one to better his or her speaking skills and improve upon them with the correct pronunciation, accent and diction.

Traditions

The school adheres to the following traditions:

  • To treat each other in a friendly manner, in and out of school
  • To avoid vulgarity in our talk and behaviour
  • To accept whatever work is assigned to us as our rightful share
