Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. Nomination of Al Pawlowski for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Al Pawlowski is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Al Pawlowski until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Levdr1lostpassword / talk 01:38, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for providing input. You may want to strikethrough your earlier positions, or at least the bolded parts (like this), as you have apparently changed your mind. Levdr1lostpassword / talk 00:14, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed you added a strikethrough to your original position ("neutral"). Thank you. However, you still have a second position ("keep") which seems to contradict what I assume is your third and current position ("he isn't notable enough for his own article"). Levdr1lostpassword / talk 03:28, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Levdr1lostpassword / talk 03:38, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
When you get a second, check out the Jeff Phelps article. I found out about it during the Pawlowski discussion, and when I first saw it, it was a mess. I then did a lot of work on it, and I'd just like to know if it's up to snuff. talk Vjmlhds 03:43, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
More FMQB-type refs (i.e. independent of the subject). WKRK-FM and Fox Sports Ohio official sites can verify content, but do not establish notability. I am planning to take a closer look in the coming days. Levdr1lostpassword / talk 03:52, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I did a thorough Google news and books search, and I'm not finding anything which sufficiently establishes notability. A link which announces a game between team A and team B, and which notes Phelps' role as reporter/host/announcer only in passing, can serve to verify content, but does not establish notability. That requires a source independent of the subject which primarily covers the subject himself (e.g., if Cleveland.com did a story *about* Jeff Phelps). So his WKRK-FM online profile, or any related content, can verify information within an article, but as they are not independent of the subject, do not establish notability. Really, the quality of the article is not an issue here, so much as the notability of the subject (or lack thereof). As of right now, Phelps does not pass WP:BIO. Levdr1lostpassword / talk 19:22, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
If you are so certain that Jeff Phelps is notable, could you then please provide at least one independent, reliable source demonstrating that he is? Passing references to on-air work don't count. Levdr1lostpassword / talk 17:19, 21 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Consider Kevin Kiley. The very first reference listed is a Los Angeles Times story... about Kevin Kiley. Surely if Phelps is notable, then the PD, ABJ, or some other independent and reliable publication would have written about him. Levdr1lostpassword / talk 17:22, 21 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. You appear to be engaged in an edit war with one or more editors according to your reverts at Jeff Phelps. Although repeatedly reverting or undoing another editor's contributions may seem necessary to protect your preferred version of a page, on Wikipedia this is usually seen as obstructing the normal editing process, and often creates animosity between editors. Instead of edit warring, please try to reach a consensus on the talk page.

If editors continue to revert to their preferred version they are likely to be blocked from editing. This isn't done to punish an editor, but to prevent the disruption caused by edit warring. In particular, editors should be aware of the three-revert rule, which says that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. While edit warring on Wikipedia is not acceptable in any amount, breaking the three-revert rule is very likely to lead to a block. Thank you. Gtwfan52 (talk) 18:39, 21 May 2013 (UTC) [reply]

I think you need to take a break from editing the article and take a look at some of the policies that affect editing. It might not have been your intention to edit war, but that is exactly what you were doing. Previous edit summaries had spelled out exactly what you needed to do and yet you continued to insert unreferenced (or not independently referenced) material. The broadcasters hall of fame's own website does not list phelps [1]. As a matter of fact, they show no inductees for 2007 at all. That is why you need to find independent sourcing for all the claims. The information you are referencing is from his employer, who is hardly an independent source. The question at the AfD discussion is whether Mr. Phelps is notable (WP:N) enough to have an article. The problem with your recent edits is they are not reliable sources (WP:RS). I don't believe everything I read on the internet. Do you? That is why some sources are ok and some are not. Gtwfan52 (talk) 18:59, 21 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Again, I thought I was doing what you were asking me to do in finding reliable sources and references to back up my information. If the sources didn't meet Wiki standards, I'll know better next time, but as I said before, all I was trying to accomplish was what you had asked me to do. There was no malice or attempting to cause a ruckus intended on my part, I was just simply doing what I thought I was asked to do by another editor. It was poor execution on my part on an attempt to do right by a fellow editor rather than trying to be arguemenative with said editor. (talk) Vjmlhds 19:09, 21 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) Gtwfan52- to be fair here, it takes two to edit-war. Levdr1lostpassword / talk 21:10, 21 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Levdr, to be fair, I did come to you first after I worked on the Phelps article the first time, and asked your opinion on it. And while you did bring up the WP:Notability issue, you said you had no issues regarding WP:Verify. And if you go through the Phelps edit history, you will see that all I have tried to do in the interim is try to add references (to the ones I already had in there) to both show notablility and to reinforce all information about his awards. Now whether the notability thing works or not isn't up to me, but I don't think it can be argued that any edit I made to the Phelps article could be considered "disruptive", and that all I tried to do in later edits is what Gtwfan52 told me to do regarding the sources for Phelps' awards. (talk) Vjmlhds 21:21, 21 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The only issue here is edit-warring. Gtwfan52 seems to think the two of you were edit-warring, so I notified Qwyrxian as he is familiar with your situation. Notability is addressed in the Phelps AFD. Levdr1lostpassword / talk 21:29, 21 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict)My apologies, Vjmlhds. For some reason, I thought you were a newbie. I am sure you know what edit warring is. There is something going on in the background here that makes me feel as if I am on acid, but I do agree that the Phelps article lacks notability. I know you feel differently. Looking at an article that is all sourced to references tied directly to the subject just sets bells off in my head, as does awards that are vaguely described and not sourced. so I did some checking and what I could turn up indeed did show one award was downright false. Hence my insistence on independent sourcing for all of them. If the source that claimed his hall of fame induction made that up, what is to make me think they didn't make up the other awards too? Fresh start (yes, really)

Sigh... If nothing else, I respect your tenacity. After reflecting on this latest back-and-forth the last couple of hours, I've concluded that endlessly debating over what more or less amounts to nothing ultimately accomplishes... nothing. I would rather focus on building solid content, and I suspect you would, too. I am willing to forgive, forget, and start fresh if you are. Believe it or not, I am able to recognize constructive editing. Example: you have made a sincere attempt to cite your content in recent weeks, and that does not go unappreciated (see?). So... shall we cooperate? Levdr1lostpassword / talk 02:23, 23 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Cleveland Browns and Indians fan

Hey, I am also a Cleveland Browns and Indians fan too! I know Drew Carey is because he is originally from Cleveland. Have you been to Browns or Indians games? Ashbeckjonathan 20:16, 24 May 2013 (UTC)

Browns vs. Packers preseason game

I went to a preseason game between the Cleveland Browns and the Green Bay Packers and the Browns ended up winning it on a game winning field goal by Phil Dawson in 2010. Browns beat them two other times in the preseason: 2011 and 2012 the week after when the Packers fell short to the San Diego Chargers. At least the Browns beat the Chargers. I liked it when the Browns shocked Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in 2010 Cleveland Browns season as well as Charlie Batch and the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2012. I also enjoyed the Browns beating the Kansas City Chiefs 30-7 last season. In 2011, they even defeated the Colts when Peyton Manning was gone for the season with a neck injury and now he's with the Broncos as well as the Dolphins. The Browns even beat the Packers at Lambeau Field in 2005. Do you remember the Bottlegate Game where Brown fans threw bottles on the field? Ashbeckjonathan 00:32, 25 May 2013 (UTC)

Self-awarding, TV WikiProject barnstar

I think it's nice that you have been recognizing others with barnstars lately, but I don't think it's appropriate to award yourself barnstars. It's not a violation of policy so far as I know, but it does violate custom, and I think it potentially creates a false impression on your userpage. Also, I've decided to decline the TV Barnstar you gave me recently. Apparently that award is meant for members of the TV WikiProject who have accomplished a great deal within the scope of that WikiProject; I've only made a handful of edits to TV station articles, and I'm not part of the TV WikiProject. So, again, thank you, but I'll have to decline that one. Levdr1lostpassword / talk 19:18, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I wasn't trying to "self award" Barnstars as if to consider myself the greatest thing since sliced bread, (I made sure not to make it seem like self aggrandizing or anything like that), my intent was to share the awards with Ashbeckjonathan as a sign of teamwork on the Jeff Phelps article. On both the 1/2 Barnstar, and the Article Rescue Barnstar, I clearly stated that these were shared awards with Ashbeck...I meant for them to be a sign of teamwork, and to recognize him for his efforts in saving the article (he did sound like he was ready to fight people). If I went about it the wrong way, I'll figure out how to make it right...if Ashbeck is cool with it, I'll list them as awarded by Ashbeck. talk) 20:55, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think you necessarily did anything wrong. I just think most editors won't take Barnstars that you award yourself very seriously (shared or not). I also think it cheapens the award to ask someone to give it to you, but that's just my take. The basic concept of Barnstars is to give editors the opportunity to recognize the contributions of other editors. You might also consider that one or more editors felt strongly enough to write an essay on this subject. That said, it doesn't appear to be a matter of policy, so feel free to disregard this message. Levdr1lostpassword / talk 21:22, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Though intended to be humorous, I do think there is some relevant truth in this essay as well, particularly type "B". Levdr1lostpassword / talk 21:28, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I read the article, and type "B" in particluar...you're right...I got a little roo overzealous with the Barnstars, so I will remove the Article Saved Barnstar off my user page. Went a wee bit overboard there. (talk) Vjmlhds 22:02, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I really do try to be precise and specific with the Barnstars I've given out - I've given 3 to you (the purple one to make amends for past hard feelings, the TV one for the work you've done on TV articles, and the civility one for the nice gesture you made the other day), 1 to Qwyrxian (the admin one for being patient with me and not dropping the hammer on me when he could have in the past) 1 to InedibleHulk (the pro wrestling one for he like me is a member of WP:PW and he does a lot of work on pro wrestling articles, and he and I have worked together in the past), and now the 1 1/2 to Ashbeck for the Jeff Phelps article.
