Anitha Shaiq (born 27 May 1984), often credited as Anitha.S or simply Anitha is a South Indian play back singer and a music composer from Kerala. She performs Indian classical, Gazal, folk and pop numbers. She performed in Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi and Tamil so far. In her three years in the Malayalam film Industry,she has recorded more than 40 film songs and several stage shows and live Gazal concerts. She is a recipient of Jessy Award, Lions Club Musical Award and nominated for the “Best Singer" in the Asianet film Awards.

Early life and family

She was born on 27 May 1984, to Shaiq Ibrahim and Sirajuniza Begum in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, into a family of musicians. Her mother, Sirajunisa Begum, was also her first guru (teacher). Anitha started her vocal training at the age of four with her mother who is a music teacher working in a Government school and has a BGrade in AIR (ALL INDIA RADIO). Anitha picked up the Carnatic lessons from her mother and later she joined Dr.Omanakkuty(Rtd Professor, Kerala music Department and sister of the late MG Radhakrishnan). There she practiced her Carnatic lessons with Sri.Seethalakshmi, as well as light music under M. G. Radhakrishnan and also Sri Perumbavoor Raveendra Nath. She is married to Mr. Ashish who is a script writer.

School life

Anitha was an all-rounder in her school college days, interested not only in music but also in poetry, theatre events, dance etc in the state level of school, national level of college competitions. She was an active member of NCC (National Cadet Corps) and represented Kerala, Lakshadweep in the Republic Day Camp in New Delhi and won President's gold medal for cultural activities.

Film career

Anitha started her play back singing in 2007 with the hit song of that year composed by Sree.Vidyasagar.^{[citation needed]} She has sung for many Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi and Kannada movies.^{[citation needed]}
