Bankstown Bites Food Festival is one of Sydney’s most unique food festivals.[1]

History

Bankstown Bites Food Festival

Started in 2005 by Bankstown City Council the event is held annually in July and includes cooking demonstrations, live performances, tours of local food outlets, activities for the kids and a huge variety of food stalls. Over 10,000 guests annually attend the event.

Hundreds watch as both local and celebrity chefs take to the stage for their cooking demonstrations.[2] Chefs such as [3] Miguel Maestre, Darren Simpson, Ed Halmagyi[4] and Ian Hewitson have all been a part of the event. Local chefs including Antonios Chayna (Platform 1) and Robert Green (Bel Cibo) have also been a part of Bites to promote local cuisine. Both local and celebrity chefs contribute to the annual Bankstown Bites Food Festival Recipe Book.

Bankstown Bites Food Festival also offers the chance for food lovers to discover the flavours of the city by taking one of the many Discovery Food Tours conducted on the day. Visiting several of the local cafes, restaurants and grocery stores can be an eye opener, with Bankstown rapidly establishing itself as one of the best locations for Asian and Arabic cuisine.

The festival also has a range of activities with cooking classes, sustainability displays and food craft, rides and puppet shows for the kids.

Between the cooking demonstrations are the performances, a mix of dance, live music and comedy, with the emphasis on up-and-coming local singers including those from the Bankstown Talent Advancement Program.[5] Bankstown Bites has continued to grow over the years with an estimated 10,000 people now attending.
