Mixed martial arts record from Sherdog

Conor McGregor (born July 14, 1988) is an Irish mixed martial artist. He is currently signed with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, fighting in their Featherweight division. McGregor is the former CWFC Featherweight Champion and Lightweight Champion, which made him the first professional Irish fighter to hold two world titles in two separate divisions. As of July 21, 2014, he is #10 in official UFC Featherweight rankings.[3]

Background

Born and raised in Dublin, Ireland, McGregor began training from a young age, going on to become a National Champion in boxing.[4]

Mixed martial arts career

Early career

McGregor made his professional MMA debut in March 2008. Over the next two and a half years, he amassed a record of 14-2.

Beginning in 2011, McGregor started an undefeated streak of 11 wins (as of 06/19/2014) with all of the wins but one being finishes (9 KO/TKOs and 1 submission). During this period McGregor produced his fastest televised KO at Cage Contender 8 in Dublin, Ireland. This streak resulted in considerable attention on MMA message boards and McGregor rose in the European rankings.

In March 2013, McGregor's path to MMA was the focus of a documentary by Raidió Teilifís Éireann.[5]

Ultimate Fighting Championship

In February 2013, the UFC announced that they had signed McGregor to a multi-fight contract.[6] He is the second fighter from the Republic of Ireland to fight for the company, following welterweight Tom Egan.

McGregor made his UFC debut against Marcus Brimage on April 6, 2013 at UFC on Fuel TV 9.[7] He was successful in his first bout, winning via TKO just over a minute into the first round. The win also earned McGregor his first Knockout of the Night award.[8]

McGregor was expected to face Andy Ogle on August 17, 2013 at UFC Fight Night 26 [9] However, Ogle pulled out of the bout citing an injury and was replaced by Max Holloway.[10] He won the fight via unanimous decision, dominating Holloway standing and on the ground. Following the bout with Holloway, an MRI scan revealed that McGregor had torn his ACL during the bout and would require surgery, keeping him out of action for up to ten months.[11]

McGregor was expected to face Cole Miller on July 19, 2014 at UFC Fight Night 46.[12] However, Miller pulled out of the bout citing a thumb injury and was replaced by Diego Brandao.[13] McGregor won the fight via TKO in the first round. The win also earned McGregor his first Performance of the Night bonus award.[14] McGregor is slated to face Dustin Poirier at UFC 178 in Las Vegas on September 27, 2014.[15]
