''The Young OG Project'' received mixed reviews from [[music critics]]. G. W. Gras of ''The InscriberMag'' said "Fabolous and his production team show they have a certain affinity for the chopped and screwed sound because half the songs on the album seem to transition to that and the novelty wears off early – and becomes annoying. "Bish Bounce" actually gets ruined because of it. Aiden Rosario of Cheeks and Leeks said, "Fab ends the album on a good note at least with "Young OG II". It's here where Fabolous really displays the knowledge one expects from their neighborhood O.G. For the first time Fab reveals himself as one who is fighting off things that would get him in trouble when he was younger because he has bigger plans". Not calling Fabolous irrelevant but his time is slowly coming to an end. Fab still delivers with his usual quotables and witty punchlines over great production. Matter fact the production is a huge strong point of the album. The Young OG does a great job of mixing old school 90s hip hop with a modern twist giving older listeners a nostalgic feeling while still appealing to the casual hip hop listener. Some of the beats even sample some of our favorite New York 90s hip hop tracks. What rapper could have pulled this off better than the BK vet? Don’t expect anything much different and more than his past projects but overall this is a solid album. The overall album lacks replay value but the few standout tracks remind us why Fabolous still has everyone tuning in after all these years.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://cheeksandleaks.com/2015/01/04/album-review-fabolous-shows-why-he-is-the-games-young-og/|last=Rosario|first=Aiden|title=Album Review: Fabolous Show's Why He Is In The Game's 'Young OG'|accessdate=January 6, 2015}}</ref>

Untitled

The Young OG Project is the sixth studio album by American rapper Fabolous, released on December 25, 2014 in the US, by Desert Storm Records and Def Jam Recordings. The album is the follow-up to Loso's Way, which was released in 2009.[1]

Background

According to XXL, The Young OG Project also featured French Montana and Kevin Hart makes a guest appearance on a track called "Cinnamon Apple". He first announced he would release Loso's Way 2: Rise To Power in 2010, but with the album's many delays, Fabolous decided naming his forthcoming release after a track from his critically acclaimed The S.O.U.L. Tape 3. Fabolous said the album would be "very '90s-inspired and '90s-themed", "I was introduced to hip-hop in the '80s, but the '90s is when it flourished and you saw different people, different styles and different regions emerge it was a very diverse and versatile time and that's another reason why it sticks to me," he told MTV.[2] Fabolous said, that the whole goal for the album was about his perspective of the '90's, where he came from and where he is today. He also said, it could bring back memories of the guys who really lived in it and it could influence the people who didn't live in it, they could also go in the vibe of it or look up the songs where it came from.[3]

Promotion

"Lituation" serves as the first single from the album, and plays to Fabolous' strengths. Featuring a gritty sample, backed up by some hard drums, the production compliments the rapper's stoic punchline-driven delivery perfectly. On Twitter, Fabolous describes the record as "something for the streets".[4] Fabolous' second single is "Ball Drop" featuring French Montana, which was released on December 14, 2014. The song kicks off with a sound bite from New Year’s Eve 1989 before Fabolous raps about cutting his chick off when the ball drops in Times Square, "New year, new money, Then the call drops".[5] The album contains killer singles like "She Wildin'" featuring Chris Brown. Fabolous said "That one is one of the flips of the project, actually taking one of the joints from the '90s and 2014in' it," the rapper said of the song. "What I wanted to do was just put my touch on things. I don't like to do other people's records over unless it's called for... I'm not going in there saying, 'I'm going to take your record and do it better.' I'm going in there and take the record and do my thing on it. My version is the retro. Sometimes the retros come out cool too."[6]
