Louise Linton (born 21 December 1980) is a Scottish actress. She has appeared in films such as Cabin Fever and a single episode each of television series CSI: NY and Cold Case. She is the founder and a producing partner of Stormchaser Films, a Los Angeles-based independent production company.[3][4] Linton is married to Steven Mnuchin.

Early life

Linton was born in the Murrayfield area of Edinburgh, Scotland.[4] She was educated at St George's School for Girls and Fettes College.[5] Her family owns Melville Castle outside Edinburgh.[6]

As a child, Linton trained with a private coach from The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, from which she acquired her certificate with honours.[7] Her mother died when she was 14 years old.[6] After boarding school, she spent part of her gap year serving as a volunteer in northern Zambia, before attending university in the United States.[8] She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in journalism from Pepperdine University and earned a law degree (J.D.) from the University of West Los Angeles School of Law[9], an unaccredited, for-profit law school.

Career

Linton acted in her first film in 2007's Lions for Lambs, where she played the character Miss M.[10] In 2008, she portrayed the role of Katie in the Roy Lee horror film The Echo.[11]

She acted in episodes of the TV series CSI: NY and Cold Case and in the film Crew 2 Crew. Linton's first lead role was in the sci-fi film Scavengers. She appeared in Cabin Fever, and played the lead role of Elizabeth in the thriller Intruder in 2016.[11]

She is the founder and a producing partner of Stormchaser Films, a Los Angeles-based independent production company.[12]

In 2016, Linton drew wide criticism for her self-published book about her experiences in Zambia, titled In Congo's Shadow, co-authored by Wendy Holden.[8] After many readers objected to her false portrayal of Zambia, Linton withdrew her book from sale .[13] The Zambian High Commission in London and others have criticised the book for its inaccuracies and promotion of the false narrative of "the white saviour".[13][14][15][16][17][18][19] She later apologised for causing offense and promised to donate all profits from the book to an appropriate charity.[20]

Personal life

On 24 June 2017, Linton married Steven Mnuchin, the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury and ex-Goldman Sachs banker. The civil ceremony, at which Vice President Mike Pence officiated, took place at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, D.C.[21]
