"Power" is a song by British girl group Little Mix, from their fourth studio album Glory Days (2016). The official remix of the song was released as the fourth single on 26 May 2017,[1] with additional vocals from British grime artist Stormzy.[2][3] Lyrically, the song is about female empowerment and how women can be just as strong as men.[4] The song has reached number six on the UK Singles Chart, becoming the group's eleventh top 10 single in the UK, and the third from Glory Days. The remix of the song is included on their reissue of their fourth studio album, Glory Days, Glory Days: The Platinum Edition (2017). "Power" most recently has been featured as one of the theme songs for WWE's Royal Rumble 2018 event.[5]

Live Performances

They performed the song live at the Capital Summertime Ball 2017,[6] They also performed alongside Reggaeton Lento with boy band CNCO, On the X factor 2017.[7]

Reception

Critical Response

Upon its release, "Power" generated positive commentaries by music critics, Nicole Rosenthal from Cryptic Rock said: “Power” is a feminist anthem of sorts, complete with revving motors introducing it all. Smoothly transitioning into a larger-than-life, festival-ready EDM chorus, it is one of many highlights on the album".[8] Tell Tales talked about the song by saying: "Little Mix are revving up their engines and warming up their powerful vocals for this standout song. It’s definitely the girls’ strongest track yet. TALK ABOUT POWER!."[9] Katie Goodwin from Her Campus said that "Jade had the best vocals for the chorus" where as also calling out the main lyrics of the song, “You should know, I'm the one who's in control. I'll let you come take the wheel, as long as you don't forget…who got the power? I got the, I got the power.”[10]

Chart performance

On June 8, 2017, "Power" debuted on UK Singles Charts at its peak position of number 6 and stayed there for 32 week.[11] It also debuted at 2 in Scotland and 7 in New Zealand.

Composition

James Abrahart (pictured) co-produced the song.

"Power" is a house and industrial pop inspired song.[12][13] With elements of EDM,[14] country pop,[15] and trap music.[16] With a "electronic chorus".[17] It runs for four minutes and two-seconds.[18][19][20] It features a country-inspired electric guitar riff and a motorcycle sound at the start of the song.[21] According to the sheet music published at Musicnotes.com by Sony/ATV Music Publishing, "Power" is written in the key of E♭ minor, Their vocals range between the notes D4-F♯5.[22] Haydon Benfield from Renowned For Sound said that "The funky opening riff certainly piqued his interest and, in many ways" where as also calling them "Powerhouse vocals".[23] it was written by Dan Omelio, Camille Purcell, James Abrahart, Michael Omari.
