The MG ZS is a sports utility vehicle (SUV) produced by the Chinese owned, British automotive marque MG Motor. The MG ZS is the second SUV to be produced by MG Motor, the first being the larger MG GS, which was launched in April 2015. The MG ZS notably revives the name previously used on the MG ZS saloon, which was based on the Rover 45, and was produced by MG Motor's predecessors MG Rover from 2001 to 2005.

About

Rear view

The MG ZS was announced in 2016, at the Guangzhou Auto Show in China. The MG ZS marked MG Motor's second venture into the crossover/SUV market. It is intended to sit below the larger MG GS, but larger than the smaller MG 3.[1] The MG ZS was subsequently launched in China, in March 2017.

The MG ZS was announced at the London Motor Show in May 2017 for the United Kingdom, and production commenced at the end of 2017. The MG ZS SUV was also shown at the Auto Shanghai Motor Show in April 2017, alongside the new concept MG E-Motion.[2]

To avoid confusion with the previous MG ZS, it was announced the ZS SUV was to be called XS in the United Kingdom, however this change of name did not occur, and to date the model is still listed as the MG ZS on the website of MG Motors for the United Kingdom. An all electric version made its debut at the 2018 Guangzhou Auto Show, and is expected to go on sale in India and UK, Germany, Australia, Thailand and Middle East by December 2019.[3]

Engines

The ZS is powered by two petrol engines. An updated SMTC developed version of the naturally aspirated 1.5 as found in the MG3, known in this guise as the NSE Plus (formerly just NSE) the updated engine is tuned differently in each market based on locally applicable emission regulations. In China for example, the engine is tuned to deliver 120PS and 150Nm torque.

In the United Kingdom, where the regulations are more strict, the engine delivers 106PS and 141Nm of torque. The second engine is a new turbocharged three cylinder engine, developed by SAIC in conjunction with General Motors. Again in China, it produces 125PS and 175Nm torque, but in the United Kingdom, it produces 111PS and 160Nm torque.[4]
