Jagdeep Dhankhar (born 18 May 1951) is an Indian politician who belonged to the Bharatiya Janata Party. As of 2020, he is serving as the Governor of West Bengal or রাজ্যপাল .[1] He is an advocate at the Supreme Court of India, and was a member of Lok Sabha from 1989 to 1991.

Early life and education

Dhankhar was born on May 18, 1951 in Kithana, a small village in the State of Rajasthan. He completed his school education from Sainik School, Chittorgarh and then graduated from the University of Rajasthan, Jaipur.[3][4] Dhankhar completed his primary education in Kithana Village School.

Career

He was a Member of Parliament from Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan during 1989-91 in the 9th Lok Sabha, representing Janata Dal. He also was former Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Kishangarh, Rajasthan during 1993-98 in the 10th Legislative Assembly Rajasthan and former President of Rajasthan High Court Bar Association, Jaipur.[citation needed] On 30 July 2019, President Ram Nath Kovind appointed him as Governor of West Bengal.
