Revision as of 13:53, 10 March 2021
If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."
If you are here because you want an admin to approve of your new article or your proposed page move, you are in the wrong place.

- To list a technical request: Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:
This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page.{{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=edit summary for the move}}
the - If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
- If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.
Technical requests
Edit this section if you want to move a request from Uncontroversial to Contested.
Uncontroversial technical requests
- Colonial origins of comparative development (currently a redirect to Colonial Origins of Comparative Development) → Colonial Origins of Comparative Development (move · discuss) – Title case for a title. 98.143.65.225 (talk) 13:53, 10 March 2021 (UTC)
- Freddie Roach → Frederick Roach (move · discuss) – So as to accommodate Fred Roach as well. 207.161.86.162 (talk) 00:05, 10 March 2021 (UTC)
- Wikipedia:Request for comment/Adminship term length (currently a redirect to Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Adminship term length) → Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Adminship term length (move · discuss) – This page should be at this new title, but when moving it I accidentally moved the wrong page, and now there is a redirect at the new title. It will point to the original page for now. JJP...MASTER![talk to] JJP... master? 13:18, 9 March 2021 (UTC)
- Shoulder problem → Shoulder pain (currently a redirect back to Shoulder problem) (move · discuss) – This is a better title for this page; all of these "problems" cause pain. Also, Wikipedia's preference for article titles in the singular, and "Shoulder problem" is less meaningful that "Shoulder pain" A loose necktie (talk) 14:51, 9 March 2021 (UTC)
- Coronavirus disease 2019 (currently a redirect to COVID-19) → COVID-19 (move) – RM closed as move (t · c) buidhe 19:51, 9 March 2021 (UTC)
- Psst, Buidhe, should we set
discuss=no
? Just to avoid tempting fate again. Rotideypoc41352 (talk · contribs) 03:25, 10 March 2021 (UTC)- Set to no. {{u|Sdkb}} talk 03:42, 10 March 2021 (UTC)
- Psst, Buidhe, should we set
- Evergreen FC (currently a redirect to Northern Virginia FC) → Northern Virginia FC (move · discuss) – This is part of a merge+rename with Northern Virginia Royals that was started 12 days ago, but not closed at Talk:Evergreen FC. 4 editors (including myself as nominator) have voted in favour of the merge and rename, while only one has opposed (and the point he has made appears to be (from what I interpret) that he is not interested in reading the additional sources he requested because I provided 4 extra instead of one). From past experience, a 4-1 vote usually suffices for a rename. The lack of closure could just be from the way the votes were made as the 4 positive votes are labelled Support, Comment, Merge, and Support merge respectively instead of all saying Support RedPatchBoy (talk) 22:35, 9 March 2021 (UTC)
