Ethnicity question

Shouldn't he be called African American or Black, why call him Senegalese?

Profile in NYTimes

Nationality

According to the NYT article referenced in the previous section he does not (yet) have Italian citizenship or an Italian passport, though he's lived there most of his life. Given that and his quote from the NYT in which he says "sincerely, I don’t need a piece of paper to define myself as Italian," I changed the nationality back to Italian-Senegalese for now.
