Revision as of 12:44, 12 December 2021

The players draft for the seventh edition of the 2022 Pakistan Super League, which is the franchise T20 cricket league of Pakistan, will take place on 12 December 2021 at the High Performance Centre in Lahore.[1][2] Before the draft, the teams are allowed to retain a maximum of 8 players and make any transfers. The transfer and retention window closed on 10 December 2021.[3]

Background

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced that Lahore Qalanders will have the first pick.[3]

In a first in PSL, right-to-match cards were introduced allowing PSL franchises to buy back a maximum of one player that they have released on the draft day by paying the respective fee against each category - Platinum (PKR 2.8 million), Diamond (PKR 1.75 million), Gold (PKR 1.4 million), Silver (PKR 0.8 million), Emerging (PKR 0.45 million). Each team was also allowed to pick two additional players in the supplementary round. The franchises also had the right to exercise one wildcard pick.[4]

Transfers

Shahid Afridi and England's James Vince were traded from the Multan Sultans to the Quetta Gladiators. As part of the transfer, the Sultans took Quetta’s diamond and silver round picks, respectively.[1] 2021 season's Islamabad United players Iftikhar Ahmed was swapped with Quetta Gladiators' wicketkeeper/batsman Azam Khan, [1] while Hussain Talat was traded to Peshawar Zalmi in return of Zalmi's silver category 2nd round pick. [5]

Retained players

On 10 December 2021, the PCB announced the retention players list. All the teams were allowed to retain a maximum of 8 players from the previous season.[6][7] All four franchises fully utilised their quota of eight player retentions apart from Multan Sultans and Quetta Gladiators.[4]
