Maisie Hannah Peters (born 28 May 2000)[1] is an English singer-songwriter. After releasing three EPs, in August 2021, she released her debut studio album You Signed Up for This under Ed Sheeran's Gingerbread Man Records label.

Early life

Peters was born and grew up in Steyning, West Sussex, England. She has a twin sister, Ellen.[2] At around age eight, she performed in a choir. She also tried to play the flute but was not successful.[3] She wrote her first song at age nine[4] and began writing songs regularly at the age of 12, after borrowing her friend's guitar for a school project.[5] She attended Steyning Grammar School, where she won in a talent show in March 2015. At age 15, she busked on the streets of Brighton and began uploading original songs to YouTube.[6]

Music career

In June 2016, she performed on The Ayala Show. In August 2017, Peters independently released "Place We Were Made" and in November 2017, she released "Birthday". In 2018, she signed with Atlantic Records UK.[7]

In May 2018, she released the single "Worst of You".[8] In July 2018, she released the single, "Best I'll Ever Sing".[9]

In November 2018, she released her debut EP, Dressed Too Nice for a Jacket.[10][4][11]

In March 2019, Peters released "Stay Young", written in partnership with Romans.[11] In April 2019, she released "Favourite Ex",[12] which along with her single "Feels Like This", appeared on Love Island in June 2019.[13]

In October 2019, she released her second EP, It's Your Bed Babe, It's Your Funeral.[14]

Her song "Smile" was on the soundtrack album Birds of Prey: The Album, for the film Birds of Prey, released by Atlantic Records in February 2020.[15] Also in February 2020, Peters was announced as the opening act for concerts in Europe by Niall Horan.[16]

In May 2021, it was announced that Peters was writing the new soundtrack album for the Apple TV+ original series Trying.[17] "Funeral", the lead track for this album featuring fellow British recording artist James Bay, was released on 4 May 2021.[18]

On 15 June 2021, Peters joined Ed Sheeran's Gingerbread Man Records label.[19][20] In July 2021, she released "Psycho", a song co-written by Ed Sheeran and Steve Mac.[21] Her debut studio album, You Signed Up for This, was released on 27 August 2021.[22] The album debuted at number 2 on the UK Albums Chart and was the top selling album in UK independent record stores for that week.[23]

In March 2022, Peters toured the United States.[24]
