Some baklava for you!

Hi Doc James,

Happy New Year!

I noticed you visited McMaster about a decade ago to host a workshop about translating high-quality work into freely available Wikipedia content.

I was wondering if you could direct me to any current ongoing initiatives. In particular, I am seeking opportunities within Ontario.

Best,

User:IrateSpecialist we at Wiki Project Med Foundation are still working to translate medical content into other languages per here. Would be happy to have you join us. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 13:24, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
User:IrateSpecialist thanks for joining the effort :-) We have this tool here to help fix references more quickly after translating.[1] Best Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 03:11, 2 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, but I don't really understand how to use it. I inputted the title "Benzonatate" and the langcode "fr". It outputs "no changes". I found another tool there called "normalize references" but I don't understand what it does either. P.S. What languages do you cover? IrateSpecialist (talk) 13:37, 2 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
User:IrateSpecialist The tool runs automatically after about a day.[2] Some of the bigger languages want new articles to be fixed sooner.
I ran it on this article and moved it to main space https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/L%27alop%C3%A9cie_areata
By the way we typically only recommend translating the leads of articles rather than the entire article. Best Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 04:08, 3 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I did notice that your team only wanted to translate leads to expedite the work. Curiosity got the best of me. However, I can't figure out how to take it off my dashboard.
I have quite a few questions and requests. Please feel free to respond at your own leisure.
I found the Internet-in-a-Box project fascinating. Have any efforts been made to deliver it to Nunavut and other remote, circumpolar communities?
I found the MDWiki's GitHub repository. I'd like easier access to it in the feature. Would it be possible to add a link to it in the tools section (mdwiki.toolforge.org)?
Is there a process for requesting articles to be translated? While translating vitamin D deficiency, I noticed there isn't one for Health effects of sunlight exposure in French and it isn't on the list of 3,000 or so articles waiting to be translated.
Would it be possible for me to get the ability to use the talk section on MDWiki articles? I'd like to be able to highlight some things that need changing that I cannot do myself. For example, the vitamin D deficiency article I translated has a diagram on the normal process of vitamin D absorption in English. IrateSpecialist (talk) 10:51, 3 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
User:IrateSpecialist All articles can of course be edited further after the translation is live.
Have not received interest from Canada's North at this point. I know they have some internet in a number of communities.
You mean this one https://github.com/Wikiproject-Medicine

Happy New Year!
Hi Doc James, Looking backwards, looking forwards, best wishes for the New Year. Thank you for all you do to keep Wikipedia such an excellent resource for medical knowledge! (Regardless of UTC, it is still January 1 where I'm posting! (Another Saskabusher :) ) Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 02:20, 2 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Happy New Year!
Hello Doc James:

Did you know ... that back in 1885, Wikipedia editors wrote Good Articles with axes, hammers and chisels?

Thank you for your contributions to this encyclopedia using 21st century technology. I hope you don't get any unnecessary blisters.
