Revision as of 22:42, 13 March 2007

If you are here to suggest implementing a delay in HagermanBot signing comments, please read through my archives before posting.

As best described by Gurch the reason HagermanBot signs immediately is... A lot of users like to reply to messages left on their talk page in the same place, rather than going to the other user's page, to stop discussions being fragmented. Suppose the bot is set to wait 30 seconds before signing a comment. Now suppose User A leaves a message on User B's talk page, but forgets to sign. Within seconds of User A saving the edit, User B has seen a big orange bar and clicked on it. After a few more seconds, he's scrolled to the bottom of his talk page and hit the section edit link to reply. Unless pages are loading particularly slowly he will likely do this within 30 seconds. While User B is typing the message, the 30 seconds expires and HagermanBot signs User A's comment. User B finishes his reply a couple of minutes later and hits Save. Up pops the edit conflict screen; User B is confused and after a little investigation finds HagermanBot caused the edit conflict. User B comes to this page and moans about the bot.

You may also opt out of the bot's ministrations.

Bot still being a pain

Enough with this bot already. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.144.60.229 (talkcontribs)

Go bot, oh yeah, go bot... Great bot you have; it is one of the most useful things on Wikipedia, more important than AntiVandal and Orphans. !! The Evil Clown 02:04, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think the bot misplaced a sig

Here a user went in and added to his comment, and the bot came in and signed the middle of the comment. *Mishatx*-In\Out 05:55, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Suggested improvement to HagermanBot

Hi Hagerman, kudos on developing a highly useful bot. I've noticed some false positives with HagermanBot though, when I insert extra text within my own existing comment, if the text is on its own line [1]. Perhaps HagermanBot can check if the closest following signature is from the same user, and if so ignore the addition? Quarl (talk) 2007-03-02 10:38Z

Single edit opt-out

I like Hagermanbot going after me in case I miss something. There are cases when I intend to skip signing, such as here and here. Is there a way we could have a single edit opt-out feature? E.g. we could add an <!--opt-out--> html comment. Especially useful for newsletters and stuff. NikoSilver 18:26, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Write "!NOSIGN!" somewhere in the edit summary. Quarl (talk) 2007-03-02 21:08Z
Thanks!! (testing for now...)
Perfect (I didn't doubt, I just like watching gizmos work!) :-) NikoSilver 23:59, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Question

Is it possible to set HagermanBot to unleash hell on a particular page? I'm trying to watch the discussion at Template talk:Crash series, but apparently everyone is adamantly against signing, for whatever reason. Grandmasterka 21:38, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Activity Monitor

As I mentioned a while ago... already archieved== Activity Monitor ==

So I tried to check what it was monitoring.. but the site seems to be down? So, can you message me whenever its up... or however you want to deal with that. MrMacMan 03:52, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

So can you please get back to me? MrMacMan 00:08, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hagermanbot false positive

I put a link at the top of an IP talk linking to a past revision, to show older warnings. Hagermanbot signed it, but obviously didn't need to. (Here's the diff). I don't know whether this is the sort of thing you can (or want to) stop the bot doing - in the grand scheme of things, this is certainly not a problem, but I thought you might be interested. Bot problem

Hey Hagerman. I want to opt back in so the bot will sign my talk page again. The trouble is that I opted out when my user name was User:Proto, and since then I have changed my user name (yay for Wikipedia:Usurpation) to User:Neil. Due to the way your opt-out and opt-in works, I cannot now remove User:Proto from the list. Well, I could remove it manually, but I'm not sure whether that would break something. Can you remove my old user name from the opt-out list? As it's still there, it seems to be stopping the bot working, despite my opting-in under my new user name. Why is the bot not working?

Hi, Hagerman. The bot didn't work in Jimbo's talk page, so, I added the unsigned template manually as can be seen here. I sent this message just to let you know. Thank you. --Meno25 08:36, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bot + RFC = bad combo

The bot is signing posts (or at least one post) on the request for comment pages; these posts are not supposed to have usernames included in the signature, so this is a problem. siafu 12:49, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You can place the rfc page on a list of pages that this bot ignores, so you won't be interuppted. Canadianshoper 05:18, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Prehse moved this page to archives, but there were many things people did not finish talking about, i unblocked it, there were no complaints, but if that page needs to be archived again, let me know. Also I moved Rocky page to archives,(too many war edits) total mess, since you are online much more often watch over those pages. Let's keep them real nice. As far as an article being class A or B, you be the judge, but they need lots of improvement. p.s. How to set up an email?Indianawisdom

Talkpage archiving

Just doing the rounds of talkpages previously archived by EssjayBot III. Just to let you know that Misza13 has created MiszaBot III to perform the same function. You can request this Bot's services at User:MiszaBot/Archive requests. WjBscribe 01:07, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yo

put a lil delay on this bot. plus, brotherman, if signing IS in fact optional, why make it so punitive? The undertow 12:07, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
