The 2023 season will be the Washington Commanders' upcoming 92nd season in the National Football League, their third under general manager Martin Mayhew and their fourth under head coach Ron Rivera. They will attempt to improve upon their 8–8–1 record from the previous year and return to the playoffs for the first time since 2020.

The team replaced offensive coordinator Scott Turner, who joined the team in 2020, with former Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, who was also named assistant head coach.[1] An investment group led by Josh Harris reached a preliminary agreement with Commanders owner Daniel Snyder to purchase the team for $6.05 billion, the largest sales transaction for a sports franchise in history.

Ownership change

In 2023, a group led by American private equity investor and philanthropist Josh Harris reached a preliminary agreement with Commanders owner Daniel Snyder to purchase the team for $6.05 billion, the largest sales transaction for a sports franchise in history.[2][3] The group includes several limited partners, including businessman and philanthropist Mitchell Rales and Basketball Hall of Famer Magic Johnson, with the sale expected to be ratified at a league meeting in late May.[3]
