Einstein is an animal actor who provided motion capture for a catahoula curl named Cain in the 2018 video game Red Dead Redemption 2.

Involvement in the Red Dead series

Einstein was owned by Jason Barnes, a senior animator at Rockstar Games who worked there during the development of Red Dead Redemption 2.[3] Einstein became involved in providing motion capture during the production of Red Dead Redemption 2 after Barnes was promoted from Rockstar's office in San Diego to their office in New York City.[1] Einstein would often accompany Barnes on the drive out to Rockstar's motion capture set on Long Island, and soon Barnes was asked if Einstein could provide some motion capture work because, according to Barnes, "he was known by all of the actors at this point and because of his service training, he was very used to sitting and waiting patiently which made him a perfect mo-cap dog."[1] Einstein was included in the game's closing credits as "Einstein Barnes" alongside his fellow animal actors, Listo, Zaiden, Zayna, Zeal, and Zeke.[2]

On June 10, 2023, Barnes reported on Instagram that Einstein had passed away of cancer.[2] The story was later reported by several videogame-related news outlets including IGN,[3] PC Gamer,[1] and Kotaku.[4] The post was responded to by many of Einstein's fellow actors from Red Dead Redemption 2 including Benjamin Byron Davis and Steve J. Palmer, as well as other members of Rockstar staff.[2]
