The Iberoamerican Academy of Management (IAOM)[1] is an academic professional association dedicated to promoting management research and education in Ibero-America. IAOM was founded in 1997 as an affiliate of the Academy of Management.[2] The first president and founder was Luis Gomez-Mejia. IAOM's inaugural conference was held in 1999 in Madrid, Spain, hosted by the Charles III University of Madrid. The organisation aims to stimulate research on management relevant to Iberoamerican countries and enhance networking among management scholars across the region.

A major milestone for IAOM was the launch in 2003 of its official academic journal, Management Research, published by Emerald Group Publishing.[3]

History

IAOM was founded in 1997 through a series of meetings held by management scholars active in the Academy of Management with strong links to Iberoamerican countries. The first president was Luis R. Gomez-Mejia (Arizona State University).

In IAOM's early years, the organization functioned mainly as a series of conferences and meetings for management professors to connect, share research, and promote the field across Latin America, Spain, Portugal and the United States.

Activities include hosting a bi-annual conference and organizing capacity-building initiatives for management researchers and educators.

Presidents

The current president of the IAOM elected in 2021 is Len J. Treviño (Florida Atlantic University). Past presidents are: Herman Aguinis (George Washington University), Julio DeCastro (Instituto de Empresa), Carolina Gomez (Florida International University), and Luis Gomez-Mejia (Arizona State University).

Academic journal

The official journal of the organisation is Management Research, published by Emerald Group Publishing. The journal was established by Luis R Gomez-Mejia (Arizona State University) and Isabel Gutierrez (Universidad Carlos III), who served as editors-in-chief for 9 years. Subsequent editors included Martin Larraza (Universidad Publica de Navarra) and Jose Ernesto Amoros (Instituto de Monterey). The aim of the journal is to provide a forum for peer-reviewed research covering all major management disciplines, with a focus on issues relevant to Iberoamerica.
