Template:Family name hatnote

Hi @Primefac, can I ask you to make an addition at Template:Family name hatnote? It would be very helpful to have a "Medieval" entry. This would be for names like "Konrad von Würzburg". I would be looking for a text that reads something like this:

In this medieval name, the personal name is Konrad, and von Würzburg is an appellation or descriptor. There is no family name. This person should be listed alphabetically under Konrad.

I wouldn't want to make the hatnote too long, but what we are really needing to get at is that after the first reference, he should be referred to for short as "Konrad", never as "Würzburg", which is the town he was born in. See here for more: https://worcestercathedrallibrary.wordpress.com/2017/06/20/whats-in-a-medieval-second-name/ This would be very useful for medieval English, French, German and Dutch authors, among others. I would be very grateful if you could help here. Doric Loon (talk) 16:04, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the delay in replying. It might be a bit wordy (though I do realise some of the others are very wordy) but otherwise I don't see any issue. If Konrad is the only one, though, it might not be worth the extra effort. Primefac (talk) 14:08, 26 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oh gosh, I didn't see you had answered. No, Konrad is not the only one. I expect to see this used on several hundred articles - the vast majority of writers in Middle English, Middle High German, and Middle Dutch. If it is too wordy, we can maybe shorten it
In this medieval name, the personal name is Konrad, and von Würzburg is an appellation. List alphabetically under Konrad.
I would not be surprised if somebody comes along and wants to change "appellation" to something else: descriptor or identifier are both used, and I don't feel strongly about it. Doric Loon (talk) 16:00, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Holiday Greetings

Peace is a state of balance and understanding in yourself and between others, where respect is gained by the acceptance of differences, tolerance persists, conflicts are resolved through dialog, people's rights are respected and their voices are heard, and everyone is at their highest point of serenity without social tension. Happy Holidays to you and yours. It's that time of year again. I come with hat in hand asking if you might find the time between now and the New Year to create the Editor of the Year Hall of Fame for 2024. Thanks so much! ―Buster7

MMS request - December administrator newsletter

Hello Primefac, I hope you're doing well. The December admin newsletter is ready to go. If you're available, could you please send it? (Wikipedia:Administrators' newsletter/2023/12) I'm reaching out on your talk page because it's already quite late. Also, as someone who regularly contributes to this newsletter, I've applied for MMS rights at PERM to ensure timely distribution. – DreamRimmer (talk) 14:17, 8 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Every time I think I remember how to do MMS I forget that I always forget how to do it. I've granted you MMS for now to deal with the Dec issue. Primefac (talk) 14:32, 8 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have sent it for December. There has been a delay of 7-8 days every month, so if you could extend the permission, I would be able to send it on time each month. Thank you – DreamRimmer (talk) 16:04, 8 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I hadn't noticed. If this is a trend and you're going to step up, happy to do so. Primefac (talk) 16:10, 8 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks :) – DreamRimmer (talk) 16:38, 8 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please help with family tree.

Hi Primefac. Could you please help me with this family tree (see below)? I need to save it in my sandbox so I could clean up a messed up family tree with the relevant info. I tried to follow the family tree help page but it is too complicated, and I've noticed you've been active on that page [1]. I'll make it simple for you:

- Man 1 had 3 sons = Son A, Son B, and Son C.
- Son A had a son called Son AA.
- Son AA married a woman called Wife 1, and from that marriage had a son called Son AAA
- Son AA married a woman called Wife 2, and from that marriage 2 sons and a daughter namely - Son AAA2, Son AAA 3, and Daughter 1 (respectively).

Could you please help me design a simple tree chart like this one showing the above? No elaborate colours needed. I just want it plain and simple. Many thanks.CultureCouture (talk) 01:44, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

All I did was fix a template call, I haven't really ever used the family tree templates. From what I can tell reading the template's documentation, you just need to lay it out like a table and then fill in the relevant information. You'd have six template calls, I think:
  1. The man
  2. The lines connecting the man to his sons
  3. A, B, and C
  4. The lines connecting A to AA
  5. Wife 1, AA, and Wife 2 (probably in that order)
  6. Lines connecting AA to his children
  7. AAA, AAA2, AAA3, and Daughter 1
My suggestion would be to write out the tree on a piece of paper, and then put a box around each element of the tree (names, lines, etc). Then, fill in any blank spaces with boxes in order to figure out your white space. Then it's just a matter of plugging it all into the template.
I think the best thing for you to do is start working on a sandbox version, and if you're still stuck after a bit let me know and I'll see what I can do to help. Primefac (talk) 11:00, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Grae Cleugh

Hi Primefac Seasons Greetings. Hope I find you well. I tried to add Grae Cleugh to notable RSAMD alumni but the page has been protected. Could you please revert. He won an Olivier award in 20002 for his debut play f*cking games 2002 Laurence Olivier Awards, Laurence Olivier Award for Most Promising Playwright, and https://www.bloomsbury.com/uk/author/grae-cleugh/. 81.147.111.139 (talk) 12:47, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Per the comment left at the article's talk, the short answer is "no". His article was deleted and we do not keep redlinks in lists like this. Primefac (talk) 12:51, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The article was deleted because it was created by a banned user, not because the subject is not notable. Perhaps you could create the article, it is quite short but notable. 81.147.111.139 (talk) 12:55, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Is there consensus on that "we", some notable alumni may not have articles for legal reasons. 81.147.111.139 (talk) 12:56, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I do not know who Cleugh is, nor do I really have the time or interest to write about him. You could always request that someone write the article at WP:RA. Primefac (talk) 12:57, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I made a request at articles for creation. A friend actually requested the article Grae Cleugh, and the article Playwrights' Studio Scotland created by colleagues. Unfortunately they were both deleted because I am the presumed author using socked accounts...
I should add I requested help from a "friend" because I am blocked from editing. I was blocked for trying to remove my name from a page, and was eventually succesful following a formal legal request and the source article was ammended, but my block, and sock history has not been deleted so I cannot edit or create articles. 81.147.111.139 (talk) 13:32, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps you could undo the deletion of Grae Cleugh, or at least have a quick look, 5 minutes of your time would bring it up to standard, and fix a number links on other wikipedia articles at the top of this thread. 81.147.111.139 (talk) 13:34, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have no interest in helping out socks. Your name was hidden from the history of the page in question because it just happened to also contain copyrighted text during the same period. If the copyvio hadn't been there, your name would still be in the history. Primefac (talk) 13:42, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Shame on you Primefac... I suggest you get help. 81.147.111.139 (talk) 13:56, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
