CN Chicago Subdivision in Chicago, built and formerly owned by Illinois Central Railroad, is a section of railway from 16th Street Junction in Chicago to Kankakee, with a length of 60.1 miles (96.7 km)[1]. As a part of the ICRR Main Line from Chicago to New Orleans, this line connects the subdivision with the same name at its south end and Freeport Subdivision at its north end. Previously, most south-bound trains came or left the Central Station through this line. Nowadays, this line is still busy; passenger services include 3 services of Metra Electric District, South Shore Line, and 3 pairs of Amtrak trains - the Illini, Saluki, and City of New Orleans; freight services are provided by freight trains going in and out of Homewood station.

Connection

16th Street Junction: through connection with Freeport Subdivision and St. Charles Air Line; at-grade crossing with Rock Island District.

Grand Crossing: crossing railline of Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway (nowadays Norfolk Southern Railway) under its viaduct. The nearby neighbourhood was named from this crossing.
