You have made an error in your comment on [[Draft:Cueva Pintada (California)]], that site is not the same as [[Painted Cave, Galdar]] which is a completely different site on another continent. Please read both the draft and the article you suggested it be merged to and you will find this is the case. Please strike that comment. I do however agree with you that the draft is not ready for article space and should be declined. Just so you know the editor who created the draft has a long history of errors (see their talk page), so your good-faith but incorrect comment is complicating matters. Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Recent changes
- The software used to render SVG files has been updated to a new version, fixing many longstanding bugs in SVG rendering. [6]
- The HTML used to render all headings is being changed to improve accessibility. It was changed last week in some skins (Vector legacy and Minerva). Please test gadgets on your wiki on these skins and report any related problems so that they can be resolved before this change is made in Vector-2022. The developers are still considering the introduction of a Gadget API for adding buttons to section titles if that would be helpful to tool creators, and would appreciate any input you have on that.
- The HTML markup used for citations by Parsoid changed last week. In places where Parsoid previously added the
mw-reference-text
class, Parsoid now also adds thereference-text
class for better compatibility with the legacy parser. More details are available. [7]
Problems
- There was a bug with the Content Translation interface that caused the tools menus to appear in the wrong location. This has now been fixed. [8]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 11 June. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 12 June. It will be on all wikis from 13 June (calendar). [9][10]
- The new version of MediaWiki includes another change to the HTML markup used for citations: Parsoid will now generate a
<span class="mw-cite-backlink">
wrapper for both named and unnamed references for better compatibility with the legacy parser. Interface administrators should verify that gadgets that interact with citations are compatible with the new markup. More details are available. [11] - On multilingual wikis that use the
<translate>
system, there is a feature that shows potentially-outdated translations with a pink background until they are updated or confirmed. From this week, confirming translations will be logged, and there is a new user-right that can be required for confirming translations if the community requests it. [12]

Article class for Funding of European political parties
Hi @Clearfrienda, thanks for the banner you added to the talk page of Funding of European political parties. However, you wrote that the article is class C, while @Zanahary has indicated a class B on my talk page. Was there a change (and if so, why?) or is this a mistake? Just trying to understand the discrepancy. Thanks! Julius Schwarz (talk) 07:02, 13 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Julius Schwarz: I use a tool called Rater to add/remove WikiProjects and assess/rate. It will automatically rate an article (using AI) when I run it on a page. In this case, I was configuring the banner shell. Per WP:PIQA, most assessments are now done independent of WikiProjects. There are often discrepancies between reviews because, in the end, rating an article is completely subjective and doesn't mean anything. There is no official process — anyone can rate an article. You can read the B-class criteria here. Funding of European political parties is very long (which in itself is not an issue) so I won't do a full review of it. If you think the article meets the B-class criteria, you can change it yourself. You can also request an independent rating at WP:WPWP/ASSESS. Happy editing, C F A 💬 21:42, 13 June 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the detailed reply @Clearfrienda. To be honest, I am not really hung up on the rating itself, I was just interested in the two differing assessments in such a short time. More useful would be some of the observations/recommendations that your tool made (if any). Personally, I do not want to be in a position to grade my own work, that's far too subjective; that's why I was happy when the first rating came in. Whatever the actual grade, the point now is to see what can be improved and work on that one bit at a time. Feel free to share anything of use. Julius Schwarz (talk) 06:59, 14 June 2024 (UTC)
