Zeteo is an online media company founded by British broadcaster and author Medhi Hasan following his exit from MSNBC.[1] The organization was officially launched on April 15, 2024.[2]

Background

In January 2024, Medhi Hasan quit his position at MSNBC following the network's cancellation of his show the previous year,[3] opting instead to "look for a new challenge."[4] Hasan announced the creation of Zeteo in February 2024.[1][5][6] Hasan said Zeteo would allow him to "speak bluntly about racism, fascism, genocide, and more."[7]

Content

The word "Zeteo" comes from the Ancient Greek word for "to strive" or "to seek after."[8] Hasan acts as the website's editor-in-chief, and is the host of Medhi: Uncensored.[clarification needed] Contributors to Zeteo include journalist Owen Jones, author Naomi Klein,[9] climate activist Greta Thunberg,[10] and Cynthia Nixon.[10]

Israel-Hamas war

Zeteo has put much of its focus on Israel's ongoing war with Hamas in the Gaza Strip, particularly Israel's bombing campaign and the ongoing famine there.

In May 2024, Zeteo, in collaboration with think tank Data for Progress, released the results of a poll the organizations had conducted which found that a majority of Americans supported a permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.[11]

Some criticized Zeteo for its focus on the issue of Israel, including Ashley Rindsberg of UnHerd, who said Zeteo was "focused almost exclusively on Israel." However, in an interview with Haaretz, Hasan argued that there was "no such thing" as too much coverage of Israel.
