Lindfield is a suburb which lies in the North Shore area of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It is situated around 10km NNW of the Sydney Central Business District.
The "garden suburb" of 7.21 square kilometres features residential housing of californian bungalow and federation style, double brick and tile construction. The suburb also includes rich Australian native bushland, bordering Garigal National Park and Lane Cove National Park. There is excellent bushwalking, abseiling and bouldering around Lindfield.
Lindfield has a railway station on the North Shore Line and is about 20 minutes by train from the Sydney central business district. The Pacific Highway goes through Lindfield.
History
The Lindfield area was settled in the 1850s. The name derives from the native town Lindfield, Sussex, England of Mr List, an early landowner, who gave the name to his house. This name was therefore later used to identify the neighbourhood.
