The term Kaurava is a Sanskrit term, that means the descendants of Kuru, a legendary king who is the ancestor of many of the characters of the Mahabharata. It is often written as Kauravas in English; technically this plural form is incorrect since the Sanskrit form is plural already. The singular term, for a single descendant of Kuru, is Kaura.

This is incorrect; the vṛddhi derivative of Kuruis correctly Kaurava (just as the derivative of Viṣnu is Vaiṣnava); it is an a-stem and would produce a plural by lengthening (sg Kauravaḥ, pl Kauravāḥ). No a-stem forms a plural by adding -va. The plural of Kuruḥ is Kuravaḥ but that is a u-stem, a different noun category. There is no noun Kaura. RandomCritic 16:43, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
