Animal Crossing Wii is the working title of a Wii game that is in development by Nintendo EAD. It is part of the Animal Crossing series. The title was announced as a Wii game that markets the Wii's WiiConnect24 feature.[1] On February 21 2007, the title was confirmed to be still in the works, though no target was given for its release[2][3].
In a 2006 interview, Katsuya Eguchi – leader of Metroid Prime production development – said: "someone could send a letter from their cellphone or from an email address on a PC to the Wii, and then the player living in the town in Animal Crossing could receive that letter." [4] In another interview with IGN, Katsuya Eguchi also discussed how his team continues exploring potential ways to take advantage of the WiiConnect24 feature such as allowing friends to visit your town while the machine is in standby mode.[5]
On page 29 of the Wii Operations Manual (Channels and Settings), you can see an Animal Crossing logo on a themed message in a screenshot. The message is titled "Animal..." with the rest of the title cut off.
