Changing username/Simple
This page is a forum in which users can request, and global renamers (including stewards) can consider and carry out, requests to rename accounts to usernames that are not yet taken on any Wikimedia project. While global renamers carry out renames, other users (including bots) help by "clerking" the mechanics of this process. If you wish to help as a clerk, please read the linked page carefully.

Instructions
For help 'vanishing' from Wikipedia,
please see courtesy vanishing.

Once you have decided on the name you would like:

  1. Read this page first. You must be aware of, and understand, all of that information before requesting a username change
  2. Check to make sure this username is not already in use. Do this by searching for the name here. If the name appears in the results, even if on another Wikimedia project, it is taken.
  3. Do not create an account under the new name or move/redirect your userpages. We'll do that for you.
  4. Log in with your present username in order to place your request. Renames will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.
  5. Click here to place your request.
    • Add your desired username after NEW=
    • Add a reason for the change after REASON=
    • Do not change anything after CURRENT=
  6. Make sure that you have spelt your desired name correctly, including capitalization and spacing. Save the page. If your request is submitted malformed, please remedy it according to this page.
  7. Check back on this page periodically to answer any questions that may arise regarding your request. Please be patient. It may take a few days for your request to be completed. If you do not answer any questions, your request may be declined due to no response.
  8. Once your request has been completed, please do not remove or change your request. It will be archived automatically by a bot.
  • Requests that do not adhere to these instructions or that are grossly malformed are subject to removal.

Important Notes After you are renamed...
  • Due to technical limitations, usernames may not start with a lowercase letter. However, you may use the template {{lowercase title}} on your user and user talk pages, and change your signature to reflect your preference.
  • Underscores and spaces are considered identical by the MediaWiki software.
  • Use of a company, organization, group, website, or product name as a username is prohibited by the username policy.
  • Please understand the implications of using your real name before requesting a name change to it.
  • ... your name will be changed to the new one in the page history of every page you've edited.
  • ... your userpage and any subpages will be moved to the new name automatically. Please do not attempt to move them yourself.
  • ... links left by your previous signatures will still point to the old userpage; however, a redirect will be left behind to your new userpage.
  • ... your request will be automatically moved to the archives in the interest of transparency.

Current requests

Add new requests to the bottom of the page.

Jenpeng → Penjenbo

Bureaucrat note: You were asked to change your name as your name (and edits) seem to imply that you are editing on behalf of Penguin Books. You are not allowed to edit on behalf of your employer due to our conflict of interest policy. I don't think that changing your name to something still with "pen" in alters that fact, or is much better than your current name. Secretlondon 17:52, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Left a note on talk page as editor has been editing still using the COI username. Secretlondon 17:55, 24 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Deadriene16 → Venom251

Bureaucrat note: We have Venom2615 (talk · contribs) who has edited recently. Please consider another username. --Deskana (talk) 00:39, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Eltaf → Tiroma

Please describe these issues briefly? I googled Eltaf and found very little indicative of a privacy issue. --Deskana (talk) 00:41, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thegoldenageoftheflyingspaghettimonster → Fsm2007

Wouldn't any name involving the Flying spaghetti monster fall under the fifth type of disallowed username per WP:U? -Jéské (v^_^v Kacheek!) 20:57, 28 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
"Fsm" isn't blatantly related to anything, you only recognise it as a reference to the flying spaghetti monster because of the extra context here. Certainly as nothing but initials, I'm not sure how it could be considered offensive as you suggest. SamBC(talk) 21:09, 28 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose I am reading too much into it, then... my apologies. -Jéské (v^_^v Kacheek!) 21:21, 28 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
 Clerk note: Please note the user is a suspected sock. Jonathan t - c 19:31, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Question: has anyone actually presented any evidence for this, or did they just stick the tag on the userpage and leave it at that? SamBC(talk) 19:49, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I left a query at the tagger's talk page asking for evidence and notes here.Rlevse 21:16, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
When editing under the alias of User:72.179.61.56, Hkelkar made this edit [1]. After the ip was blocked by checkuser, Thegoldenageoftheflyingspaghettimonster starts making the same edits [2], [3], [4], [5]. To make matters worse the sources he used do not validate the claims that he is trying to state. Also other articles that he has edited, such as National Development Front and Communalism (South Asia) have been also edited by Hkelkar and his many socks.IP198 02:53, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Grateful Dead → Digital deadhead

Copyright infringement? Are you sure you don't want the second d capitalised, too? --Deskana (talk) 14:36, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As far as I've found out the username Grateful Dead is inappropiate because it MAY be an infringement on the copyright laws of the band Grateful Dead or so say a WikiAdmin. And in the spirit of things I don't want that so am trying to change my username, so I'd prefer Digital deadhead but I think I read somewhere the username needs both names to start with a capital as in Digital Deadhead. salmo 12:10, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Www.brocktv.ca → Rebecca.mktg

1) Provide a reason. 2) The new username seems to be promotional (".mktg" is short for "marketing", IINM), making it as bad as the current. -Jéské (v^_^v Kacheek!) 04:02, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

CURRENT → NEW

Note. Please include (a) what you want to be renamed to and (b) a reason for your request. WjBscribe 20:48, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

MediResource → MRI_Inc

Not done. New username is no better than the first. --Deskana (talk) 22:17, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

TinaGun → Tina Gun

Not done clearly self promotion for adult business. Secretlondon 02:42, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pclifton01 → Sirwiki01

Clerk note: Sirwiki01 has made edits today. I presume it is Pclifton01. You can't merge accounts, though. My advice will be to discontinue using the first account and continue with sirwiki and abandon this request. Maxim(talk) 23:27, 3 October 2007 (UTC)  Not done We cannot merge accounts. =Nichalp «Talk»= 15:45, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Giants win world series → Groovy Taxi

Clerk note: This user has 2 edits: Both to this page. --Hirohisat Kiwi 04:44, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
There's two requests for this account, both rejected... Titoxd(?!? - cool stuff) 05:06, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not done. Declined for the third time because the account requesting the rename does not exist. --Deskana (talk) 20:10, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
They've just filled out the template wrong, they do this a lot.. Check the capitalisation (and haven't you been checking the logs anyway *boggle* Secretlondon 11:31, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
According to the logs, it was created on September 30. -Jéské (v^_^v Kacheek!) 22:54, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I see the account too. here Secretlondon 11:30, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
 Done Secretlondon 11:32, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Flame of lucifer → Ajtmanansala

 Not done Per above. =Nichalp «Talk»= 15:45, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lustpuppet → Lustpuppetry

Are you sure it's already in use? The name (and the one you want to be renamed to) looks sexual in nature, and such usernames aren't allowed. -Jéské (v^_^v Kacheek!) 19:34, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: It's not in use (as you wouldn't have been able to make it) but someone has left you a comment on your username without a)signing it and b)telling you what was wrong with it. I think your name is borderline but people generally don't like sexual usernames. You can ask on requests for comments usernames or I can rename you to something complying with the Username policy. Secretlondon 11:35, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

German holman → Cyfal

  • Current name: German holman (talk · contribs · logs · block log)
  • Requested name: Cyfal (rename user)
  • Reason: I don't like the old name anymore: I started in the german Wikipedia under the name “Holman”, when then I first wanted to add some interlanguage links in the english Wikipedia, here I signed in as “German holman” because “Holman” was already occupied here. However, now I want to do more work in the english Wikipedia, thus I think the old name is not any longer appropriate. German holman 22:29, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
 Done Secretlondon 11:39, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

MITB LS → The Chronic

"The Chronic" can still be construed as a reference to marijuana. It's up to B'crat discretion, though. -Jéské (v^_^v Kacheek!) 01:44, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't think of that... well, I set up an alternative below if "The Chronic" isn't accepted. MITB LS 02:08, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: You can't actually change your username everytime the fashion changes. If I rename you to the Chronic you'll be stuck with it, I'd therefore suggest you choose a username that won't date. I've never heard "The Chronic" as a codeword for weed, but then I'm on the wrong side of the atlantic, amongst other things.Secretlondon 11:41, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

MITB LS → Detox

Clerk note: The requested username is already registered; see Special:CentralAuth. However, as this requested account has made no edits, it meets the criteria for being usurped; if you are an established user and wish to usurp it, please read and follow the process at m:Steward requests/Username changes. If you do not wish to usurp the username, please choose another name to be renamed to. WjBscribe 07:33, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not done That's not available, and my comment re fashion is attacked to the other entry. Secretlondon 11:42, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bennyboyz3000 → Crazymanager
