== Green Kirby ==

Hello:

I'll be honest with you; I'm Green Kirby's dad. Some of the issues he's had on his talk page are my fault. Parents have a hard time not defending their kids. But I no longer do that.

His subsequint issues are maturity. I'm amazed at the number of contributers that asked him to stop using Wikipedia as a chat room, and yet he did as he pleased. This lack of ability to grasp reality until privilages are yanked is a concern my wife and I address every day.

But he's a good kid. He nurtures his recently adopted Asian sister and responds well when I stick a finger in his face and yell.

I won't request that you change your mind; I'll only say that we regret the growth he'll miss without your guidence. This kid is a writer and film maker waiting for the future.

Hope all is well with you and your family.

Regards:

Thank you!

Well .... where to start?

I just want to thank everyone - I can't possibly reply to everybody :) - for being so loving and supportive over the last few days. I said what I had to say and left for a few days, just to get some breathing space. I'd actually been thinking seriously about leaving over the last few weeks, as the unwanted attentions from certain people and the pressures of the current ArbCom case were beginning to wear me down. I truly wasn't expecting the kind of responses that came flooding in. I really don't know what to say. I've archived everything, my original message and all your responses, as well as a message to others at the top, at User:Alison/Depression. As I said, I hope others in a similar situation can read this, understand it, and take some comfort from it all.

Love you all, friends :)

-- Alison

PS: I guess I'd better get back to work, then! WP:RPP is calling out to me :)

PPS: Amit, it's lovely to see you back on here, too, with job intact!

Please take my hand

My dear, dear Alison. You do not know me and only found out about you, and the troubles you have faced, in the course of a discussion with Rockpocket on my talk page. Anyway, my name, my real name, is Anastasia, though I sign here as Clio the Muse. I am English and in my early twenties, currently based at the University of Cambridge. I am a historian and recently completed my doctoral dissertation, which will be turned into a book-my first-in the course of this coming year. The work I do here on Wikipedia, for casual amusement in the main, is on the Humanities Desk, where I answer any history-related questions. I mention all this just by way of general introduction.

Shortly after I joined Wikipedia last October I, too, was the subject of bullying and harrassment by a user who became increasingly obsessive in his behaviour towards me. He is now banned, though he carried his campaign on for a time at Wikiversity with an almost complete, no, sorry, a complete lack of restraint. To begin with his 'attentions' upset me to the point where I considered giving up altogether, especially as one or two other little 'jackels' started to snap at my heels. But I am bloody-minded and I am stubborn. I decided that being here, not retreating, not giving way was the best victory I could ever have. I have no wish to go into details but I treated the person in question, whom I would rather not even name, with silent contempt, driving him even madder in the process. I did not, though, have the additional burden with which you have struggled so bravely. I do not think I have ever felt such depth of admiration for another woman that I feel for you at this point in time. I'm sorry if that sounds a bit gushing; but for once the cool, the icey Clio, Clio the intellectual and the dragon slayer, is giving way to her deepest feelings.

At first I wasn't sure if I should contact you at all simply because we have never come across one another, and I know nothing of the particular background. I only know now because of Rockpocket's involvement in the ArbCom ( I asked him why I hadn't seen him around for a while). Anyway, I struggled with this for several hours before deciding that I really had to write to you, and to make my statement public in this fashion. I hope you do not consider this presumptious of me. Your courage, your determination, your honesty and your spirit overwhelm me-and that is no exaggeration or figure of speech-to the point where, for the first time in my life, I truly want to call another woman sister. If I can ever assist you in any way please do let me know. With all the love and positive thoughts I can possibly muster. Much love from Anastasia ♥ Clio the Muse 08:27, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'd love to be able to help out - but they tell me I'd have to go through this WP:RFB thing first and it'll take 7 days. I'm guessing a crat will show up before then... ;) WjBscribe 08:17, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oy.... Mannix is back again. Jeez, I give WP a miss for a night, and what's the first thing I see. I am tempted to totally ignore it on religious grounds, as I think the S***** I*** and all its works are the work of the devil. :O) FlowerpotmaN·(t) 23:19, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

George Cross

Hello. Apparently you don't think winners of the George Cross, the second highest decoration for gallantry in Britain, are automatically notable. I'd be interested in hearing your reasoning for this, seeing as it flies in the face of wikipedia policy and common sense. Nick mallory (talk) 02:33, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Answered at User talk:Rifleman 82. Please try to remain civil here - Alison 02:50, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It was your comment there which prompted me to ask you this question here. It is not 'rude' of me to ask you why you don't think winners of the George Cross are inherently notable. After all Wikipedia's notability guidelines for people say that a person is generally held to be notable if "The person has received significant recognized awards or honors." The George Cross is clearly such an honour, second only to the Victoria Cross. Once again I ask merely for an answer to my question, simply telling me not be "rude" in asking it is not a satisfactory answer. You have provided no evidence or reasoning whatsoever to back up your claim and I merely look forward to seeing some substance to your assertion that a winner of this award should be deleted. Nick mallory (talk) 04:46, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Flies in the face of [...] common sense" strikes me as being rude, as does "What are you talking about?". Either way, I've replied on User talk:Rifleman 82 and am waiting further information from David Underdown, who has brought up a valid point. Frankly, some of your GC articles are two or three lines about an otherwise non-notable person (dispute aside) and regardless of the point of view of a Wikiproject, they seriously look on the bad side of Wikipedia:Notability. Given the evidence to-date, this is not an unreasonable premise - Alison 04:55, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

heya allie, admin question for ya. around? ~Eliz81(C) 08:03, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hm? - Alison 08:31, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm asking about talkpage notices that they've been blocked for x hours, each admin has their own template? ~Eliz81(C) 08:34, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
They don't have to, but some do. Haven't you seen Ryan's block message that says "Go down to the pub and have a pint to relax!" (or something like that) lol. I made one for Chris a while back, I think it is at User:ArielGold/sandbox if you want to see it, but yeah, many admins make their own. I'm sure Alison would help you make one that's "you" :) ArielGold 08:41, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
(ec) I just use the standard ones, so I type {{subst:uw-block|George W. Bush|time=10 years|reason=being rouge|sig=~~~~}} and that gives me this;
You have been blocked from editing for a period of 10 years in accordance with Wikipedia's blocking policy for being rouge. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make constructive contributions. If you believe this block is unjustified, you may contest the block by adding the text {{unblock|your reason here}} below. Alison 08:44, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
basically, all the template fields are optional. You can use block or vblock or sblock, depending on the case - Alison 08:44, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
