== XMission Deletion ==

Can I ask what was "blatant" about the advertising on the now deleted XMission page? I believe it referenced the historical context of Utah's first ISP and wasn't an ad for selling services. The fact that the page wasn't written or edited by me or XMission staff supports this. I'd like to resolve this with you directly, but if it can't be done, I will request a review on your speedy deletion.[[User:Pashdown|Pete Ashdown]] ([[User talk:Pashdown|talk]]) 07:05, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Aah! friendlywelcome.js turned into monobook.js!

Ioeth, I think you made a "boo-boo" about half an hour ago. I noticed that all of a sudden, a bunch of extra tabs, scripts, and options were showing up in my account, and lots of the Friendly stuff was broken. After investigating, I found this edit you made to friendlywelcome.js, effectively turning it into your monobook. It explains why the new pages box and UTC clock appeared in my account, and why none of Friendly's welcoming features are working anymore. Not being an admin, I can't undo it, but it's undoubtedly affecting all users who use Friendly's welcoming module. Thought I'd point it out to you, in the hopes that you'll come online soon to fix it. Tuvok[T@lk/Improve me] 06:30, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

On the plus side, it gives me a couple more scripts to look into; I never thought of looking at your monobook for ideas. And I got a bugfix suggestion for the UTC clock script — see the Friendly talk page for it. Cheers! We all make mistakes; don't sweat this. I need a break anyway. ;) Tuvok[T@lk/Improve me] 06:32, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's fixed! I did indeed paste my monobook.js into friendlywelcome.js accidentally. That's what I get for Wikipediaing at 1AM, I suppose. Other users' monobook.js files are a great place to find cool little scripts, which is where I found liveclock (in AzaToth's). Thanks for that bugfix by the way. That's been bothering me for a while but I never took the time to notice I had goofed the parenthesis. Nicely done! Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 06:35, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ctrl-F5ing again. Quick catch! Meanwhile, I've added TheJosh's RecentChangesPatrol script and will probably add that clock of yours. You're welcome for the bugfix; I won't even charge you for it, considering your work on Friendly. :D
As for the 0100 thing, that's funny! I can relate; I've done some things late-night that I would have caught had it been earlier. Have a nice rest-of-the-night! Tuvok[T@lk/Improve me] 06:46, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Just finished a rewrite of your fixtabs.js script. You might want to take a look; my version should be easier to maintain, should you ever choose to add/remove things. Thanks for the inspiration! Tuvok[T@lk/Improve me] 08:09, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh man, that's nice! That script is actually from Voice of All's script library, so you might want to drop him a message because that's a really slick update! Well done! Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 16:08, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Glad you think so. Note dropped, BTW. Perhaps I'll find other scripts to improve. I already made changes to Misza13's status switcher a while back... I'm beginning to build a record here. :) Tuvok[T@lk/Improve me] 20:01, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
PS: Hope you don't mind, I credited your little oops as the inspiration, since without it I probably would have never made the mod.

SFX City Theatre, Dublin

Sorry to bug you again, Ioeth, but I've got another question - this article absolutely stinks of copyvio, probably from the theatre brochure. However, the theatre's official website isn't working, so I can't prove copyvio! Removing all the advert (which I started doing before I realised just how copyvio-y it was) is going to take it back to a tiny stub... What do you think? Cricketgirl (talk) 10:22, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, the theater's website isn't working because they've moved it, at least according to Google Cache. It's at http://www.citytheatredublin.com/ if Google's right. Can't vouch for their SEO practices; no redirect? Tuvok[T@lk/Improve me] 10:28, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the Help, Tuvok, their new website is indeed there, but of course is all updated and has none of the stuff I'm looking for! If only all other sites were like Wikipedia with a "history" tab... Anyway thanks! Cricketgirl (talk) 10:46, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Nice cleanup on that article, Cricketgirl! Keep up the good work! Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 16:19, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Friendly

What does it actually do ? and what does the tag part mean ?

Thank you --Mr.whiskers (talk) 19:22, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Friendly gives you a tab (similar to "edit this page" or "discussion") at the top of a user's talk page that says "welcome". When you click on it, it lets you select a welcome template from a list and automatically saves it to the user's talk page. It makes it very very easy to welcome a new user with just 2 clicks of the mouse. The "tag" tab appears when you're looking at an article, and it lets you apply templates such as {{cleanup}}, {{unreferenced}}, {{wikify}}, and a host of others to tag the article for maintenance. I thought you might really like to have the welcome feature since you seem to do quite a bit of that! Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 20:39, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Kas Product

You speedily deleted the page on the grounds that there wasn't enough 'notability' for the artists. I posted no less then 4 different links referencing reviews, discographies and an interview. The artists had most of their work released in France and a reissue of their first album was only recently released in North America. I hope you can clarify why exactly the page was deleted when I provided enough references for information. EditingMachine (talk) 04:23, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. Speedy deletion criteria A7 says that articles have to assert the notability of their subjects. Providing external links or references does not do this; explaining why Kas Product is important does (which the article did not do). If you can explain in the article why the band is important (i.e., they meet the criteria outlined in WP:MUSIC), please feel free to recreate the article. Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 04:28, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Will you please quit deleting my posts? They aren't ads, so why are you deleting them? Stop Deleting my stuff. —Preceding unsigned comment added by CXshannon (talkcontribs) 04:26, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You should read Wikipedia's notability guideline, which can be found at WP:N. The article that you created did not assert the notability of the high school debate team, which is a criteria for speedy deletion. Unless you can explain why the team is worthy of note in an encyclopedia, the article will not be included. Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 04:31, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy Delation: Knowledge Sharing Behaviour

Hi, I would like to know why you deleted the page while I was in the process of editing it? Is there a 3 seconds time limit to create a page or what?? Cyr S. (talk) 04:41, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, there's no time limit or anything like that. There are some basic criteria called the criteria for speedy deletion that a page must pass to not be eligible for immediate deletion, though. The article that you created fell under one of those criteria, so it was deleted. If you're going to take some time to create an article, consider creating it as a subpage of your user page, for example at User:Cyr S./Knowledge Sharing Behaviour. If you click that link and start the article there, you won't have to worry about it being deleted. Once you're done with the article, you can click the "move" tab at the top and move it to "Knowledge Sharing Behaviour", which puts it in the main article space. A lot of users do this to give themselves plenty of time to edit their new article before putting it into the encyclopedia. Let me know if you have any questions. Cheers! Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 04:45, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your kindly response. I am relatively new to this. Will do! Cyr S. (talk) 04:49, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No problem! Everybody here was new at some point in time, after all. Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help you out! Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 04:51, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

wanderingatlarge userpage: stuff i want to remember how to do

Hi Ioeth. I just wanted to let you know that I am a learner editor and I've been putting some things I'm learning in a personal sandbox. Please don't delete - its just for my own use - but if you do want to, I would be grateful if you'd recommend a better way for me to store these type of things. thank you Wanderingatlarge (talk) 04:59, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I just wonder under what circumstances did you decide to block this IP. As you might wonder, this IP belongs to Tonbridge School. Blocking a shared IP for half a year without any previous blocks seems unusual. --Deryck C. 17:33, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, this IP has quite an extensive history of previous blocks. See this for the list. I count 10 blocks previous to mine since October 2005 with the longest at 7 months. Wikipedia receives vandalism consistently from this IP address, so I chose 6 months since it covers more-or-less until the end of the school year. That's not too outlandish, is it? Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 20:06, 25 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Whoa! That's some history there. I even know somebody at that school, too, from the summer. There are a couple of good edits there, I guess, but most of them are vandalism. What else would you expect from an all-boys boarding school? ;) Tuvok[T@lk/Improve me] 06:16, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for my false accusation. I didn't realise that I set the wrong option so I couldn't view the old logs. As I'm physically present behind this IP, would it be feasible that I can take part in managing users behind here? (the process is, namely, to ask the others to sign up for an account, which will be autoblocked, and I'll go in and clear the autoblock) --Deryck C. 08:41, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
And one more note: there are 1000 people between this IP, so this extent of contribution and vandalism is by no means outlandish, either. Rather, I suppose it's rather mild considering the edit-per-pax value. --Deryck C. 08:43, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see why not. The 6 month block I set up is a soft block, so only anonymous edits are blocked from being made. Account creation is still enabled, so new user accounts can be created, and anyone with a registered account will not be affected by the block. Given the pattern of anonymous vandalism coming from this IP address, I think that it is reasonable to use a soft block here. If there is anything that you need me to change about the block for you to help manage the users, let me know! Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 14:27, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's worth noting that the same article was deleted as an expired prod on the 21st, only it was titled as Sport and race. This time, maybe we should take it to AfD, since it's effectively a re-created prod. Acroterion (talk) 21:45, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good idea, then we can G4 it if it pops up again. I'll remove the prod and create the AFD. Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 21:46, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Phantom vibe

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Phantom vibe, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Phantom vibe. The entry for Front Range Bible Institute that I made was instantly deleted due to an alledged copyright violation. I am new to wikipedia as a contributor so specific reasons why this was deleted would be helpful. Thanks for your help in this matter. Kdfromhb (talk) 08:34, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Box at the Top of my Page

Hi, Ioeth

Please can you put options back on as I want to start using archive soon, also, is there a way to customise it if I want to?

The Helpful One (Talk) 17:02, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Those options specifically deal with how I have my archives and automated archiving set up. If you want to set up automatic archiving on your talk page, you need to consult User:MiszaBot/Archive HowTo and follow the instructions on that page appropriately. Twinkle Prod

I don't have a tab for Twinkle, for PROD (Proposed Deletion)

I installed all of the modules with the one code, do I need additional coding?

The Helpful One (Talk) 17:06, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, you shouldn't need anything else to get the "prod" tab in there. It does only appear when you're in the article space, though. If you go to a random article and it still isn't there, try pressing CTRL+F5 to do a full refresh. If that doesn't work, you should probably ask on the Twinkle talk page for help. Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 18:09, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) I have a suggestion for you to try if Ioeth's suggestions don't work. Can you add the text #p-cactions { min-width: 855px; } to your user CSS, Ctrl+F5, and see if the tab doesn't show up, if it hasn't already? By default, the tab bar isn't fully the width of the browser window, and that CSS rule makes it so it takes up all the room it has available (at 1024x768). If you have a higher or lower screen resolution, the 855px part will have to change. Let me know if you have a different res; I'll try to come up with a number for you. Re: Barnstar

Thank you very much! I'm glad you liked my idea :)

BTW, is there an easy way to customize the template list while still importing the script? (I wouldn't want to miss any new features) Rocket000 (talk) 19:01, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome! Not at the moment, but that development is something I am planning. Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 19:07, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Our pal the bumblebee

I'd say a probable COI; all edits have been in third person, so not sure if there's an autobio question involved. I'm trying hard to AGF. I've salted two of the names under which the article was re-created; did you salt the third? Go ahead and put the guy up for AfD. --Orange Mike | Talk 22:25, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

FranklinSquires and Claud "Rick" Koerber pages

Loath,

Thank you for your comments; however, I am not Rick Koerber. I am a person who lives in Utah where there has been much talk about Rick Koerber and FranklinSquires. I am doing research and want to post my findings on Wikipedia. My attempt to recreate the FranklinSquires page after it had been speedily deleted was not to circumvent user Orange Mike’s efforts. It was an attempt to comply with his suggestions. I made a few changes to the page and then created it again thinking I had resolved its issues. I am new to Wikipedia and am trying to learn its rules. I am also trying to fix the problems with the two pages (FranklinSquires, Claud “Rick” Koerber) I've created. Do not delete the pages of a Wikipedian in training. How can I learn to write a credible Wikipedia page if I only have a few attempts to write one before being threatened to block my account? Is there a way that I can create a tag at the top, to access the new pages?

You could try TheJosh's scripts. He has written one for recent changes and new pages that appear under the "interaction" box in the sidebar. Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 15:57, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My attempt to create three pages about FranklinSquires was my attempt for people to easily find this page whether they searched “FranklinSquires” “franklinsquires” or “FranklinSquires Companies, LLC.” I didn’t know I was acting like a spammer Thank you for letting me know.

Also, thank you for informing me about working on an article under my own userspace. I will do so and would ask you to give me feedback on my article from time to time. Thanks, Bumblebee91 (talk) 21:31, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Loeth,

why did you delete the above article. It was useful for anyone looking for a Greene King pub in Aylesbury, a free game of pool or a quiz on a Thursday night. The PH is also a local historical landmark - but I never got a chance to add that! --The Ultonian (talk) 22:50, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I believe this article fails WP:NOT#NEWS, but I only intend it as a scratchpad until I can figure out where the content should be merged. Cool Hand Luke 23:08, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If a scratch pad is what you need, you can always create one in your user space at Special:Mypage/Amadou Cisse (student). What articles are you thinking of merging the content into? Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 23:10, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think an appropriate target exists at this point. I put it in article space because this post to BLP/N suggests that people wish to write on it while it's timely. Might as well let them. Cool Hand Luke 23:32, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Gotcha. I do like the disambig page idea, though. Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 00:28, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm confused

It seems from this you've given 24.60.218.3 an indefinite username block. I'm missing something here - how can an anon have a username block? The block is for 48 hours though, not indefinite.

Also I'm confused about the AIV entry for this IP. The report claimed they'd vandalised Elmo. I can't see any edits from this IP since 27 November, none before that to Elmo (which has been semiprotected since 27th Nov anyway).

I'd undo things, but I'm wondering if I'm missing something fundamental here!

Tonywalton  | Talk 14:35, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like I applied the wrong template with Twinkle! I went back to the user talk page and changed to a vandalism/48 hours template. Now that you mention the Elmo article, though, I'm confused as well. There's a message on the user's talk page dated 29 November 2007 about vandalism on the Elmo article, but when I look at the Elmo article history, there's no evidence of any vandalism having been reverted today. Thanks for calling it to my attention; I think I'm going to go ahead and release the block. Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 14:41, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I thought as much, regarding the template. However this is another instance of an anon being warned for vandalising Elmo today (when it's semiprotected). I think I'll mention it to Dalekusa - perhaps there's a problem with Twinkle... Tonywalton  | Talk 14:46, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Probably a good idea. Good catch and thank you for bringing it up. You seem to have a sharp eye for detail! Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 14:59, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Do you know what is wrong?!?! The website link is User_talk:King_Z_100

This looks like a template problem, not a Friendly one. If I just go to a page and substitute the welcome template ({{subst:Welcome|Ioeth}}), it produces the same garbled text. I'll look into it. Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 19:29, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Turns out it was a wikipedia software error. Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 19:52, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

One of your edits (probably the edit of 22:06, November 19, 2007) broke it. I've restored the prior version, for the moment. — Arthur Rubin | (talk) 19:42, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for letting me know. Can you explain the details of exactly what was broken? Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 19:52, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've never had much success in using ParserFunctions, but it caused (at least many) usages to display
{{ambox
| type = content
| text =
}}
with the actual text and image to be displayed between the "text =" and the "||". — Arthur Rubin | (talk) 20:04, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If I knew what was wrong, I would have fixed it, rather than reverting. — Arthur Rubin | (talk) 20:06, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I wonder if it had to do with the space in "original research". I'll do some testing in my userspace to confirm. Thank you for bringing the issue to my attention and reverting the template back to a working copy! Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 20:08, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Did you notice an article that was tagged with {{articleissues}} that had this problem? If so, could you let me know what article it was. Thanks! Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 20:24, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I was looking at Recovered memory therapy. — Arthur Rubin | (talk) 20:30, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I think this might have been related to the Wikipedia software glitch that happened a few minutes ago. The thread right above this one was related to it as well. I've moved the entire template into my user space for testing, and used the template from the article and see no problems anymore. I'm going to revert the articleissues template to put my changes back in, as now that the Wikipedia software is fixed, it seems that the template is too. Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 20:32, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yup, that's what it was. Everything seems to be working just fine again now! Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 20:35, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

IRC cloak request

Unlawful shutdown of Gert page

Ioeth, i believe you made a mistake in the deletion of the page "Gert Caldwell". This is not a real person, therefore, I believe in no way can it be a personal attack. Gert is merely a character made by students at the College of the Rockies campus to explain food that has been stolen from the cafeteria. It is in no way offensive to anyone and should not be deleted by Wikepedia. please send me a message if you still need more information. Da_Canadian_Man —Preceding unsigned comment added by Da Canadian Man (talkcontribs) 21:44, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He might not be real, but it's unencyclopedic anyway, so I'm not going to recreate it. Please familiarize yourself with Wikipedia's policies before diving right into article creation. Thanks! Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 21:48, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Barnstar Awards

Hi Ioeth,

I want to know how I can get Wikipedia Awards, and if I can give them to anybody. Also what is the 'Missing Barnstar' or finding the persons 'Secret Page'?

How do I set up a guestbook?

Also, how do I put a bot or something on my user page that says I am online/offline.

The Helpful One (Talk) (Contributions) 21:59, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Details about barnstars can be found at WP:BARN. 'Missing Barnstar's or 'Secret Page' barnstars are usually ones that random users give out for signing their secret page. I'm not certain, but a guestbook would probably go against WP:Userpage. Take a look at User:Chris G Bot 3 for info on the online/offline status box. Barnstars

Hi,

How do I get awarded Barnstars and can I simply award them to others?

The Helpful One (Talk) (Contributions) 22:41, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You can award anybody a barnstar at any time...anyone can do it! As far as receiving barnstars, you get those when other editors notice your contributions and decide to give you one. Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 00:03, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New User

I'm new to wikipedia and tried creating my first article according to the Wikipedia:Your first article guidelines but still yet the page was still deleted. Can you offer a more comprehensive explanation (or link maybe) to what specific areas need improvement before it can be accepted? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jeremyhutton (talkcontribs) 22:44, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't mind at all, Helpful One. The page that was deleted (I was the deleting admin, btw) was Noetix. I deleted it under CSD criteria A7. Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 00:05, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

XMission Deletion

Can I ask what was "blatant" about the advertising on the now deleted XMission page? I believe it referenced the historical context of Utah's first ISP and wasn't an ad for selling services. The fact that the page wasn't written or edited by me or XMission staff supports this. I'd like to resolve this with you directly, but if it can't be done, I will request a review on your speedy deletion.Pete Ashdown (talk) 07:05, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
