Template:Future product The XPERIA X1 will be Sony Ericsson's first smartphone series based on Windows Mobile.[3], scheduled for release in the second half of 2008[4]. Presented at the Mobile World Congress 2008, this device will feature a 3-inch touchscreen and a QWERTY keypad.

Features

Display

  • 3" touch screen display with maximum resolution of 800x480 pixels
  • 65536 Colors TFT display

User Input

  • Panel interface

The 'home' screen of the XPERIA X1 is a customizable panel interface with a total of nine panels displayed simultaneously.

  • Navigation

Users of the device are able to navigate using the QWERTY keyboard as well as a 4-direction navigation key and an optical joystick.

  • Arc slider design

Building on the theme of tilted slide-out QWERTY keyboards, as seen on such devices as the HTC TyTN II, the X1 slides out on a curved fixture.

  • Handwriting Recognition

The X1 has handwriting recognition similar to the Graffiti input used by Palm OS. A stylus is used to hand write text.

  • Push email

Similar to the speed at which email arrives on less mobile platforms, such as desktop computers, Sony is marketing the 'push to device' feature which acquires new email quickly, as opposed to the manual process of email downloading on most smartphones.

  • RSS Feeds

The XPERIA X1 features an integrated aggregator for viewing favourite news, blog, and podcast updates.

  • Bluetooth Stereo Profile

The device is reported to house the A2DP standard for high-fidelity audio streaming between handset and Bluetooth headsets and audio devices.

  • Wireless LAN

The X1 allegedly has been outfitted with Wireless LAN-support, as an alternative to the 3G HSDPA-protocol, allowing users to make use of Wi-Fi connectivity for data transfer.
