Sculpture

This page is really lacking a section on sculpture and also architecture. I will try and start something off, but if anyone can help out please do as I'm no expert.--Bwmodular 11:49, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

Austin Howard

I removed a reference in the poetry section to a pantun poet, the 'child genious' (sic) Austin Howard. This seems a most unlikely name for a celebrated indonesian poet, and the only other references I can find to him are clearly copied from this page (or this page has been copied from them), apart from one other reference on a site about dating Indonesian women (www.shaadibliss.com/indonesia/index.html). American vs British

That question style is pretty strange. It is important because we need to be consistent on what style we are using. Sepa has answered on WP:INA for the same question. Imoeng 11:52, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

Tempeh vs Tempe

The cuisine section talks about tempe with a link to the article on tempeh. I've never seen it spelled without the 'h', but is this the correct spelling? --Bwmodular 08:33, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

Citation needed - SEA Games

There's a 'citation needed' tag against the reference to Indonesia's performance in the SEA games. I pulled the figures from the medals tables on the English Wikipedia tables on the games. How do I reference that in the article?--Bwmodular 11:57, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Hanuman?

I added the mascot of the 1997 SEA games to the Sport section. I take it that it IS Hanuman? It messes up the page formatting a little though. Maybe it should go? I like it though.--Bwmodular 12:07, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Cinema

The first sentence: The cinemas in Indonesia are organised by 21Cineplex, and are spread throughout 24 cities on the islands of Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, Bali and Sulawesi. makes it sound as if ALL cinemas in Indonesia are run by 21Cineplex. Is this true? Or are there still some smaller independent cinemas? Should this be changed to something like: 'The majority of cinemas..' or 'The largest chain of cinemas in Indonesia is ...' I remember plenty of small independent cinemas when I was there, but its been a while :-( --Bwmodular 12:57, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

I don't know who edited that, but I agree with you. Majorities of cinemas run by 21, but they are not the only one. So I think that phrase should be changed. — Indon (reply) — 13:42, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

PT Subentra/21 Cineplex have a monopoly on western/hollywood movies distribution. They strangle other cinemas to death. Indian/Chinese movies are show in small, old cinemas for low income class. Several cinemas on this class do not have any roof ("Gerimis Bubar") or portable cinemas ("bioskop keliling"). a note about references

For references, random web pages that assert something are not useful. We need to find authoritative sources, not tertiary sources that are just as unverified as an assertion in this article would be. -- Danny Yee 01:07, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

Digital TV and Radio

Commercial -> DVB-T, DVB-S, DVB-H are TECHNICAL standards of Digital TV transmission. DAB, HD-RADIO are technical standards of Digital Radio transmission. This is an important improvement in the history of TV and Radio transmission in Indonesia. The changes is comparable to changes from Black & White TV to Color TV or AM radio to FM radio. Why can't you sign your name - you make many edits and comments under a range of similar anon IPs. unsigned comments, particularly by anon IP editors are really annoying. First Commercials on TV

I've removed "This marks the first showing of TV commercials in Indonesia.", because RCTI is not the first one to air commercials. I remember when I was young, the older generation told me about something called "Siaran Niaga" on TVRI, which commercials were aired daily in a special slot of time(so, they weren't "commercial breaks" as we know nowadays). But somehow it ceased to exist in the TVRI of my time.

I'm sure most of us who were born in the 80's (like me) or after wouldn't know of it. But an older member of my family even sang to me her favorite jingle of that time of an air-freshener product: "Sedikit Glade disini, sedikit Glade disana, menciptakan suasana, bunga-bunga dimana-mana" (yeah, I remember, because I was fascinated and curious, TVRI in my time never had any commercials). And you know what? That same product features the same jingle in their current TV ad. To appeal to the memories of the older generation, maybe? I dunno. Matahari Pagi 03:40, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

My edits should be self-explanatory, mostly to improve idiomatic flow and condense verbiage that didn't add meaning or that simply preened. I have linked text to draw this article into the Wikipedia mainstream. Native terms that are not English words are italicised. "Sukarno" is the international spelling. Sumatra needn't be blue-birded at every appearance. The problem with this article is a fundamental one: the character of the elements it so glibly mentions are not specifically expressed. In putting them into words that transmit some specific information, some quotations would be desirable: has no one ever written in English on Indonesian culture? One might think not, reading this article. Indonesian culture as it appears here seems to be utterly without self-criticism: is that actually so? --Wetman (talk) 16:50, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
