Renuka and Yellamma are two completely separate personalities. Goddess Yellamma is an expansion of Durga-devi, who appeared to save the life of Renuka--the wife of sage Jamadagni. There are several versions to this Hindu narrative but most do not depict these two as identical. Rather, they are inseparable companions and most temples in India have two deities--a deity of Yellamma accompanied by a deity of Renuka.
