Kangana Ranaut (Hindi: कंगना राणावत) (born 23 March, 1987 in Bhambla, Himachal Pradesh, India) is an Indian actress who appears in Bollywood movies and currently Tamil films.

Biography

Early life

Kangana Ranaut is from a village called Bhambla in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh.[1] She completed most of her schooling in Shimla. She studied science and wanted to be a star all time.[2] Kangana Ranaut's mother Asha Ranaut is a school teacher and her father Amardeep Ranaut is a businessman. She has one elder sister,Rangoli and a younger brother.[citation needed]

Career

She Started her career as theatre actor in Delhi with Asmita theatre group.She trained under eminent theatre director Arvind Gaur. She participated in his theatre workshop at India Habitat Centre and acted in many plays. Kangana moved to Mumbai to try her luck in movies and received the offer for Mahesh Bhatt's 2006 film Gangster. During September 2005 Bollywood Film-maker Anurag Basu spotted her having coffee in a cafe in Bombay, and signed her up for this movie. [3].

The film was critically and commercially successful and[4] her performance was especially applauded. This was followed by another acclaimed performance in Woh Lamhe (2006).

Later, Kangana starred in yet another Anurag Basu's hit film Life In A... Metro as a confused girl who is looking for a real love and in Shakalaka Boom Boom (2007) as an aspiring singer. Kangana's sensitive portrayal in the former as a confused girl who is looking for a real love, earned her rave reviews. Kangana made her Tamil debut with the film, Dhaam Dhoom, directed by the late director, Jeeva.

She has at present, an offer to star in a US-based film entitled "Between the Night and the Moon"(2009). She will play a character named Zoon, in this romantic film lightly based on Romeo and Juliet, and set in Kashmir and Miami, Florida. The movie is directed by Italian Director Gilda Pianelli. There were rumours of her befriending a Spiritual consultant Mr. Chopra in Bangalore. This rumour has to be validated.Now, she is busy shooting for Raaz 2 and is seeing her co-star Adhyayan, son of Shekhar Suman.[5]
