Richard "Ric" Lansing is a fictional character on the ABC soap opera, General Hospital. The character has been played by soap opera veteran Rick Hearst, since 2002. On June 14 and June 15 2007, the role of Ric Lansing was played by Nick Kiriazis. In 2004, Hearst won a Daytime Emmy Award as "Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series" for the role, at the 31st Daytime Emmy Awards.[1]

He is the son of Trevor Lansing and Adela Corinthos. He is the half-brother of Sonny Corinthos. He tries to extract revenge on Sonny and his best friend, Jason Morgan, regularly because of his jealousy.

History

Background

Before Ric was born, his father, Trevor, had an affair with Sonny's mother, Adela. Adela ended up getting pregnant, and Trevor sent her and Sonny to live in his vacation home located in Martha's Vineyard to prevent from his wife finding out about Adela. While pregnant, Adela accidentally fell down the stairs. Later, Trevor told Ric that Sonny had done it because of jealousy. After Ric was born, Trevor tried to make her put Sonny up for adoption, but instead she left with only Sonny. Because of this, Ric blames Sonny for not having his mother in his life.

Revenge on Jason and Sonny

Five months after he arrived in Port Charles, he revealed to Sonny that he was actually his half-brother. He now wants to get revenge on both Sonny and Jason, who is Sonny's closest friend.

Ric and Elizabeth Webber wed in 2003, but later divorced. When they got married again, Elizabeth became pregnant with Ric's baby, but was pushed down the stairs by Ric's former lover, Faith Rosco, thus suffering a miscarriage. However, assuming wrongly that Sonny was the one who pushed Elizabeth down the stairs, he took his revenge out on Sonny's close friend and lover, Carly Corinthos, while Carly was pregnant with her son, Morgan. He kidnapped Carly and put her in a panic room. Elizabeth found Carly soon after--and divorced Ric once again because of his lies and obsession with revenge against Sonny. Ric has said many times that Elizabeth was the first person he ever loved, and she and Cameron were the most important people in his life. Even though now Ric is angry with Elizabeth for siding with Jason, he will always love her.

However, the next time Carly was kidnapped--this time by Lorenzo Alcazar--Ric decided to help Sonny and Jason find her. He even managed to get closer to Sonny and eventually became his lawyer. This was all in an effort to take over Sonny's business because of his revenge.

One night, Ric met Jason and insulted Jason's girlfriend, Sam McCall. Upon hearing this, Jason almost beat him to death until Sonny stopped him. Ric was planning on pressing charges, but Jason left the country. He even took advantage of Sam and slept with her while she was drunk and upset about her breakup with Jason.

Since then, Jason was charged with Alcazar's murder. Ric tried his hardest to get Jason stuck in jail for life--putting Sonny's business in danger. Luckily for Jason and Sonny, Carly and Jerry Jacks found evidence that freed Jason. He even tried to put Sonny's girlfriend, Kate Howard, in jail for six months for his revenge scheme, but Ric's father came to Port Charles and erased the charges.

Recent Relationships

In 2004, Ric pursued his half-brother's former lawyer and one-time lover, Alexis Davis when he discovered that she had kept her daughter's (Kristina Corinthos-Davis) paternity a secret from the child's father, Sonny Corinthos. While his relationship with Alexis was originally a ploy to 'one up' his half brother (the opportunity to gloat that he was raising Sonny's child), Ric's motives changed when he developed genuine feelings for Alexis and Kristina during Kristina's battle with childhood cancer. A frantic bone-marrow donor search forced the revelation of Kristina's paternity, but also brought about Ric's marriage to Alexis. Alexis became pregnant with Ric's child and Ric began to suspect that she loved Kristina (Sonny's child) more than his - a feeling brought to a head when Kristina was kidnapped. Eventually the family was reunited, but Ric began to develop a close attraction to Sonny's then-girlfriend, Reese Marshall, and eventually the two became intimate.

Ric separated from Alexis after discovering she had lied to him, and Ric and Reese remained close for months. During a catastrophic train wreck, Alexis, with Ric coincidentally at her side, gave birth to Ric's child, Molly Lansing. Reese died during the train wreck and Ric reunited with Alexis once more. Ric helped Alexis discover that Sam McCall was her long-lost daughter, and Sam moved in with the family, with the intention of destroying Alexis. Eventually, Ric started to complain that Alexis wasn't spending enough time with him or his daughter. Ric and Sam began to sympathize with each other and one night they became intoxicated and had sex. Alexis, who had just learned that she had cancer, came home and unbeknownst to them, witnessed their lovemaking. In early 2007, Alexis and Ric divorced.

For a while, Ric tried to win his ex-wife, Elizabeth Webber back. He framed her husband for drugs and also worked to get Jason(her lover) and Lucky to cancel each other out during a mob war. In May 2007, Ric admitted to Elizabeth, who was in a coma, that she and Cameron were the only people he had ever loved and that no matter what he would always love her. Ric has always looked at Elizabeth as a way to have a better life and be a better person. Ric stopped pursuing her when he realized that Elizabeth was in love with Jason, but he still won't give up hope that one day they can be a family with Cameron (her son with Zander) and her son with Jason.

Ric and Skye Quartermaine went to Nikolas Cassadine's Black and White Ball together. Disaster soon struck in the form of the madman Anthony Zacchara, who crashed the ball with no other motive than to wreak havoc. Ric became the first of many victims when he was impaled to a wall with a sword. Ric was in need of a blood transfusion, but no one had a matching blood type. Trevor feared for his son's life, and tracked down Sonny. After thinking a short while, Sonny agreed to give Ric blood. Ric survived after Robin Scorpio and Patrick Drake performed the surgery. Before Alexis was taken off the island due to her own medical issues, Ric and Alexis agreed to get past the events that took place in the past. They still have wonderful chemistry and they might reunite in the future.
