KKFN-FM (104.3 FM, "104.3 The Fan") is a sports radio station serving the Denver-Boulder area. The Lincoln Financial Media outlet broadcasts with an effective radiated power of 91 kW and is licensed to Longmont, Colorado.

104.3 History

The frequency was home to KLMO-FM. In 1988 the station was sold to another local owner and the calls were switched to KQKS and adopted the moniker KS104. KQKS was home to 104.3 until 1997 when Jefferson-Pilot (now part of Lincoln Financial Group) moved the calls and Rhythmic Top 40 format to 107.5. After the move J-P placed a Classic Country format on the signal. But by 2000 they would moved that format over to the AM band so they can fill the Smooth Jazz void that was left open by KHIH after the latter flipped to Top 40 that year.

In June 2007 Lincoln announced that would put its television and radio stations up for sale. KJCD, along with its sister stations in Denver, is among the properties being shopped around by Lincoln.

On March 6, 2008, KJCD changed their format to sports, simulcasting KKFN 950 AM. KJCD changed their call letters to KKFN-FM on March 12, 2008.

Programming

KKFN is an affiliate of Fox Sports Radio and broadcasts Fox Sports Soup with Sam Betesh from 12am-4am and the first hour of The Steve Czaban Show from 4am-5am. The Content Factory's syndicated The Dan Patrick Show, which is also carried by Fox Sports Radio, is played on a tape delay from 9pm-12am. KKFN also carries ESPN Radio's Mike and Mike in the Morning from 6am-10am and Premiere Radio Networks' The Jim Rome Show from 10am-1pm. Local programming includes SportsCenter Express with Mike Evans from 5am-6am, The Sports Guys with Jim Armstrong and Sandy Clough from 3pm-7pm, and The Night Guys with D-Mac and Oren from 7pm-9pm. Also, Scott Hastings and Alfred Williams host a show from 1pm-3pm. Oren Lomena hosts In the Paint following each Denver Nuggets game.

KKFN also carries play-by-play for most of the major sports leagues. It carries much of Westwood One's sports coverage. This includes NFL football, consisting of a Sunday afternoon doubleheader, Sunday Night Football, Thanksgiving Day games, Thursday and Saturday Night Football, all playoff games, the Super Bowl, and the Pro Bowl. It also includes NCAA football, including Conference Championships and some bowl games and NCAA basketball, including the NCAA Tournament. KKFN also carries ESPN Radio's coverage of the BCS, MLB, and NBA.

On weekends, KKFN airs ESPN Radio's Best of Mike and Mike with Liam and Juaquin on Saturday morings. It also airs the local program, The Fan Outdoors with Terry Wickstrom from 8am-10am. On Sundays, it airs a Public Affairs program from 5am-6am and Premiere Radio Networks' Costas on the Radio from 7pm-9pm. At all other times, either play-by-play or Fox Sports Radio is aired.
