Fake IPL Player is a blog that started on April 18, 2009, the same time as the 2009 season Indian Premier League matches. It is written by an anonymous blogger who claims to be a member of the IPL team, Kolkata Knight Riders.[1]. It is still debated whether the author of the blog is really a team insider or an external agent.[2]
The blogger refers to the IPL players by pseudo-names and describes minute details of apparent happenings in the IPL back-rooms as he sees it, especially KKR.[3]
The management of the KKR team, in its website, has termed the blog as "poison pen writing of the dirtiest variety". [4]
Identity
There is no solid evidence to suggest Fake IPL Player is indeed a real member of the KKR squad. It is assumed that he is an Indian domestic cricketer based on his comments. However, if the information provided in the blog are all factually correct, the identity of Fake IPL Player can be narrowed down to a few names:
- Rohan Banerjee
- Arindam Ghosh
- Shoaib Shaikh
The remaining players are either non-Indian, have played international cricket, or have been mentioned in third person in the blog. It is possible that Fake IPL Player referred to himself in third person to keep his identity hidden.
