Changing username/Simple
This page is a forum in which users can request, and global renamers (including stewards) can consider and carry out, requests to rename accounts to usernames that are not yet taken on any Wikimedia project. While global renamers carry out renames, other users (including bots) help by "clerking" the mechanics of this process. If you wish to help as a clerk, please read the linked page carefully. Instructions For help 'vanishing' from Wikipedia, please see courtesy vanishing. Once you have decided on the name you would like: Read this page first. You must be aware of, and understand, all of that information before requesting a username change Check to make sure this username is not already in use. Do this by searching for the name here. If the name appears in the results, even if on another Wikimedia project, it is taken. Do not create an account under the new name or move/redirect your userpages. We'll do that for you. Log in with your present username in order to place your request. Renames will not be approved if the requester is not logged in. Click here to place your request. I'd be interested, though, in what "Mentordr09" ("Mentor Dr. 09") means, if anything. Caution is always best. • Reason: I want to "professionalize" my account. You can't place "User:Headbomb" on business cards without running into old coots who will take this as a sign that you're just some myspace kid. I'm aware of all the consequences and yadda yadda yadda that ensues from using your real name on the internet. Please do not make the rename immediatly, I just want confirmation that it is possible for now (I'd switch sometimes this week if possible); I need to check a few things before switching. Some questions: 1) Will all my userpage and subpages be moved to the new account or would they have to be moved manually? 2) Will all my old account settings be preserved, or do I need to re-enter emails and whatnots? • Reason: To avoid the conflict of interest tag appearing on the principal page I have edited, 'Isotype (picture language)'. My previous username is the name of an academic research project (non-commercial) that happens to partly bear the name of its historical subject, Isotype. The article I have contributed as a representative of this project is neutral in tone and serves solely to educate.  Clerk note: It might be possible to get it so that there won't be any CoI tags when you edit that article. I'm not sure how it works; I've never been tagged with it when editing Soap, or when writing the word "soap" into other articles, and likewise I haven't had problems on my alternate account 3centsoap either, even when making edits like this. I think there might be some confusion here between the edit filter tag and the warning that was placed on Isotype's talk page. I hadn't seen that before, and am not sure what either of them meant when they mentioned tags. -- Soap ^Talk/_{Contributions} 23:28, 20 September 2009 (UTC)

• From Isotype revisited (talk) 18:51, 22 September 2009 (UTC): I think that the CoI warning and initial CoI header tag (now removed) on the page Isotype (picture language) were triggered by my username being identical with that of a website in the external links of that page: www.isotyperevisited.org, which has just gone live and so can be checked for its neutrality. I can understand the principle of this, and don't want it to keep happening to me, given that my contributions under this username will generally all pertain to that subject. So it may be advisable to change my username.
