Billa (Telugu: బిల్లా) is a 2009 Telugu language film directed by Meher Ramesh, remake of the Tamil Film Billa 2007. It also drew inspirations from the Telugu film, Yugandhar (1979) which drew inspirations from another Hindi film titled Don. Prabhas plays the lead role, where he plays dual roles of the characters Billa and Swami Ranga, with Anushka Shetty and Namitha playing the heroines.[1] The film, which began in October 2008, released in April 2009.[2] Actress Jayasudha, who had earlier starred in Yugandhar (1979) as Jaya, the first Telugu remake of Don, has a guest role as Janaki in this film.

Synopsis

Billa (Prabhas) is a don operating from Malaysia. Krishna Murthy (Krishnam Raju) is a police officer who is on the trail of Billa. Billa dies in an encounter with cops. Krishna Murthy keeps it as a secret and brings a look alike Ranga (Prabhas) a petty thief in place of Billa. Devil is the head of the gang and is in the police. He keeps telling the secrets of the police to his gang. The rest of the story is all about how Ranga completes the job for Krishna Murthy by handing Devil to the police.[3]

Box Office

The film opened to a stupendous response in the first week. It grossed Rs.11 crores distributor share in its first week. Billa has collected a distributor share of Rs.15.05 crores in 21 days. The film was declared a hit at the box office. Billa was declared to be biggest hit in Prabhas' career. In the Nellore District it collected one crore share. In Guntur it collected Rs. 1.9 cr which is Rs. 55lakhs more than prabhas best share. In the Krishna District collected Rs. 1.25 cr. Eluru Prabhas' best is Rs. 86 Lakhs, Billa collected Rs. 1.35cr. It also ran well in chennai and coimbatore In karnataka, it collected more than Rs. 2.25cr
