Ruchazie

Ruchazie is a district in the Scottish city of Glasgow. It is situated to the east of the city close to Easterhouse. The area has experienced considerable regeneration and improvement in recent years thanks to Tower Homes LHO and Ruchazie Housing Association. Ruchazie is the only district in Glasgow that does not have a Public House, although many of the inhabitants are familiar with them in other areas.

Although small, Ruchazie is split into three distinct areas, The High-End, The Coby (the posh bit, named for Cobington Place, which sounds a lot nicer than what it actually was) and the largest of them all, The Lowend. In the early '80s the Lowend was the Rangers End, and it was not until the tragic fire in Bankend St that the Council took the opportunity of demolishing the whole area. It has gone from a bustling community of 10,000 in those days to under 3,000 in 2008. The Ziggy Fleet who were born in the Lowend in 1974 are still going.

Ruchazie is also where singer/songwriter Jim Diamond was brought up. He attended St. Philip's Primary School which has recently been closed down due to the construction of St. Rose of Lima Primary School in neighbouring Craigend.

Both Ruchazie Primary and St Phillips Primary have been demolished. It is understood that the land is planned to be used for housing. These were mixed primary campuses 30 years before it became fashionable. Only two red ash pitches split the schools. Of the original Lowend. Only the "Fives", 3 "Closes" in Avondale St and the "Pensioners" houses in Gartcraig Road have survived.

Closes in Gartcraig Rd, Upper Avondale St, Claypotts Rd, Balcomie St, Milncroft Rd and Place, Bankend St, Elibank St, Caprington St, Drumlochy Road are all gone. All new housing there now in its place.

It is also the place more remembered for the ice cream wars in the 1980s when members of the Doyle Family were murdered in 1984, only 3 people survived that night, in a mark of respect for the family the whole community of Ruchazie turned out for the funerals 2 weeks after the brutal crime, to this day it is still the subject of rumour and conspiracy theories of Police collusion.

In 2007 Ruchazie became infamous as being the home of Big Mags Shearer, Britain's first bingo millionaire. Contrary to popular belief, she does not drive a Ferrari.

Ruchazie is also the home to NFL Fantasy Team Ruchazie Roughnecks who with a 10-4 record topped the Central division in their rookie season only to lose to Aleksandr's Meerkats in the semi-finals.
