I just dont understand what you mean by saying its a "personal web page", yes its made by a person but aren't all web pages :/ If it was a tv company making the website about the same pond would it be ok because it was not made by a person but a large organisation? This "personal" tag is confusing me, as far as i can see it is a perfectly legit site to be on this page, it shouldn't matter who made it but more what it is about. In that case its clearly fine because it is about a ponds life cycle etc etc..... <small><span class="autosigned">—Preceding unsigned comment added by Stozy10 (talk • contribs) 15:51, 7 April 2010 (UTC)</span></small><!-- Template:Unsigned --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->

Why so many pictures?

Why are there so many pictures in this article? If someone e.g wants to see two people reflected in a pond, he would go to flickr or something, but what the hell has such kind of picture lost here? Greetings Gregor —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.51.177.242 (talk) 06:48, 19 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's helpful to have photos as a sample of varations on what a pond can be. I think most readers coming to this article already know what a pond is, but they want to know what exactly makes a pond a pond, and they are looking for examples of the different types of ponds. Since ponds can be so variable, the plethora of photos demonstrates this well. Photos in the WP commons are free content, so it is a good source for media. --Brambleshire (talk) 14:24, 19 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

10 acres edit

I accidentally submitted an edit without comment (after several previews). (June 21, 2005 - fr:208.205.177.8). While noting that a previous mention of the surface area measure that defines a pond was deleted, I changed the wording and submitted similar. I did, however, add an explanation that there is not a universally accepted definition for when a pond is a lake or vice versa.

I have never heard of a 10 acre lake being referred to as a "Pond" before.

I seem to remember from my limnology class that a "pond" is based on how it is fed. i.e., either from underground aquifers or springs or collection of rain water that is impounded for most or all of the year. The wildlife present would vary from lakes. The latter usually have more rapid turnover of water and have a vaiety of different biotics, such as deep water fish and varying species of alage in the water column. Ponds generally are stagnant except for some run off created by rain or excess from the feeder springs or aquifers. As such, alage blooms would rob the water column of available oxygen preventing larger fauna from establishing themselves. The blooms that create these high BOD- biologic oxygen demand end up causing the bloom to end resulting in dead algae sinking to the bottom as silt. Even the larger "ponds" over 10 hectares would experience these same events. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.127.134.80 (talk) 01:00, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Try the St. Regis Pond in the Adirondacks-- it's 400-acres, and, incidentally, well over wading depth and it has an outlet. Mwanner | Talk 15:33, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Just because it's named as a pond doesn't mean it is a pond. Herostratus (talk) 18:25, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've tried to address this by separating "Technical definition" from the introduction, but it's still a mess. Please, feel free to fix it further; I may not get back to this for a while. Alluvian (talk) 20:49, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Pond Armor

Why is pond armour there as a link? It dosen't seem to have any information in the site and seems to be nothing but advertising. Cheeetar (talk) 10:15, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm going to delete it as it is a contribution by a user who has nothing but that edit. Cheeetar (talk) 10:54, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Too small to be a pond?

Does anyone know, and can you elequently add, what a body of water gets classified as if it is too small to be a pond (less than 1 square meter)?

Grammar / phrasing

I think this article needs a thorough cleanup. I will be attempting several minor edits to improve grammar; I'll also mark the article for cleanup. To anyone who removes the cleanup tag: please explain why here. Thanks! Alluvian (talk) 17:53, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This article has to be at least 50% definition by volume... It gives definitions for pond over, and over, and over, and over again, and manages to contradict itself wherever it's even remotely possible to do so. I've heavily reorganized the information up through the beginning of Nomenclature, and I'll give the rest of the article a thorough fix-up later. Anyone else who wants to dive into those later sections and fix them up, please do. This article needs a lot of work, if it's going to be included in the DVD Wikipedia. External Link?

Do you think that this website would be a good external link to be added to the Pond article? It is all about the life and how to build a wildlife pond. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Stozy10 (talkcontribs) 13:41, 17 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No, Wikipedia is not a how-to and see WP:ELNO. – ukexpat (talk) 14:49, 17 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The "How to" page is 1 of around 25, I suggest you read some pages and see for yourself. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Stozy10 (talkcontribs) 00:13, 18 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I also said see WP:ELNO. To be specific, item 11 - this appears to be a personal webpage. – ukexpat (talk) 00:14, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

When you say "personal" what exactly do you mean? Its not exactly a blog about somebodies life its made to describe a ponds yearly life cycle... how personal can that be? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Stozy10 (talkcontribs) 21:16, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure what else I can say. If you want further input please ask at the External links noticeboard. – ukexpat (talk) 21:32, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
