Bowenpally or Bowinpally is a suburb in Secunderabad, India. It is predominantly a middle and upper middle class suburb. Bowenpally is part of the Secunderabad Cantonment area, where the British held sway for several years. The old village of Bowenpally with its people-friendly streets still exist. One among the few old structures left is an old shrine with some rough sculptures of a bull with distinct Kakatiyan design, near the Bowenpally Police Station.

This is now a sprawling suburb of Secunderabad. The Hyderabad airport has a single 0927 (east–west) runway. Bowenpally is just north of this unmistakable landmark. It is also the meeting point of two national highways: NH-7 (marked as "Nizamabad Road" on the map) and NH-9 (marked as "Pune Road" on the map). It serves as the gateway to the city from these two highways.

History

In early days, Secunderabad was a small town with three major villages, namely Tirumalagiri, Bowenpally and Alwal. The name "Bowenpally" derives from Bhuvanapalli. It is named after the King of Chalukya, Trailokya Malla Bhuvanesvara, from the 10th century. The State Archeology Department found an inscription on a pillar dating from the Chalukya times, thus confirming the name. Indian

Commercial area

The second biggest vegetable market in Hyderabad, Government-owned, The Market Yard, Bowenpally is located close by. Recently Reliance fresh, Spencers, More, Magna, Reebok have put up their own retail outlets across various places in Bowenpally. AWHO colony area and Bapuji nagar area stand out in having various shops and ATM's. Bigflix has also launched its outlet in Bowenpally.And shortly opening Ladies dress store, Name = PARI FASHIONS @ Centre Point Bowenpally. There are several national banks such as SBI, ING Vysya, SBH, Bank of Baroda and ICICI are also present here.

Culture and Recreation

Well known Hindu temples in the area include Sri Venkateshwara swamy temple, Sai baba Temple, 7 Temples (Edu gullu), very famous Tadbund Sri Hanuman Temple, Siddhidhatri Dhurgabhavani Temple, ancient Lord Siva Temple behind Post office, Sri Ganesh Temple.

Bowenpally has only one cinema theatre, Kalyani Theatre.

On the Medchal Highway NH7 (also known as Nizamabad Road), there are many dhabas which serve delicious food. These dhabas are economical and serve authentic Punjabi food. The Host, Feast are some of the hotels in Bowenpally.

Transport

APSRTC runs many buses that connect it to different parts of the city like 26,26N,26M,26S, 26M/229, 29,30, 31, 226 ply from Secunderabd Station to Old-Bowenpally and other special buses such as 26/8C,26/5R, 47/26 etc. ply during the office hours. Also, 24E/31H plies through bowenpally. Another bus numbered 26G plies from the station to Greenfields via Hasmathpet.

The closest MMTS Train station is at Fatehnagar.

The traffic is high throughout the day, and many buses and other vehicles ply to Secunderabad city via New Bowenpally.

There is a new plan to add a traffic light at the Center Point and Diamond Point Irani hotels to ease congestion. In addition the Cantonment has plans to widen the road to ease growing traffic.

Sub-regions

Park View Enclave

Bowenpally has two major sub-regions, Old Bowenpally and New Bowenpally. There are some gated communities in the area, the major ones being Park View Enclave, BHEL Enclave, SAIL Employees colony, Ramgopal Enclave, Syndicate Bank Officer's Colony , Sowjanya Colony, Pavan Vihar Colony, Jayanagar Colony, Bhavani Nagar, Swarnadhama Nagar samatha nagar(R.B.I. colony), SAIBABA COLONY etc. .

Old Bowenpally

It is very near to Begumpet Airport run-way. There is also a very old movie theater, Kalyani, at Old Bowenpally. Malikarjuna Nagar and Also Hanuman Temple with golden god inside the temple, Saibaba Temple.

New Bowenpally

New Bowenpally is modern and very close to the city, although there are good colonies in both Old and New Bowenpally. New Bowenpally has two areas, Pedda Thokatta and Chinna Thokatta. Pedda Thokatta connects to Old Bowenpally and Chinna Thokatta connects to Tarbund.

New Bowenpally comes under cantonment area, along with other surrounding areas surrounding, such as Tarbund, Tirumalagiri and Alwal. The cantonment has their own administration and tax departments, including facilities such as water and construction approvals.

New Bowenpally connects to both NH7 highway towards Medchal and NH9 highway towards Balangar industrial area. There is an Old Airport road and a burial grounds and Mount Carmel School in this area, also called Old Bombay Highway. New Bowenpally has a police Station, post Office, library, hospital, electricity department, school and park all located very close to each other on the NH7 highway, towards Medchal. The Indian Air Force Academy and recruitment for both technical and non-technical trades is also located at New Bowenpally, on the way to Balanagar from Bowenpally.

People here are very humble and cooperative. There is a unity in diversity. As this place is known to be Lashkar means British used this place for their military mostly horse based military training. Hear people from all walks of life means from different places of the country and also from other countries live here. its a calm and one of the Nice places in twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. Hear Bonalu is a very famous festival.We can see very old and nice temple of Sri Seetha Ramula vari Devastanam is located at comsary Bazar is one of the very old markets.
