Could you have a look at Stanford Jim and see how we are doing making it non-copyvio? I haven't dealt with copyright issues on Wikipedia in a while and I'd like your opinion on how close we are to being compliant so far.Dolive21 (talk) 21:20, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately it is still a copyvio. In order for the text to not be a copyvio, it must not resemble the original text. The sentences are still copies of the original text. I am going to reinstate the copyvio tag. ttonyb (talk) 22:23, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

2011 is the 1st year of the second decade of the third millennium. How is that an incorrect assumption?

I'm at a loss as to why you changed my edit on listing the year 2011 CE as the 1st year of the second decade of the third millennium. Do the math. There was no "Year 0 CE". Years CE are counted from Year 1. "0" is a point, not a year. Might you think the second millennium ended in 1999 CE? It did not--it ended in 2000 CE. Allllllll of the decades/centuries/millenia end in a "0", not a "9". Alllllllll first years of the decades/centuries/millennia end with a "1". It's simple math. I'll break it down: First Decade (10 years total): begins with year 1, then year 2, etc. As we approach the end of the decade, we get year 8, year 9, uh, wait, that makes only 9 years, not ten. Guess we have to include year 10 to that first decade in order for the First Decade to actually include 10 years instead of nine. Subsequently, the Second Decade must begin with year 11. The same arithmetic naming applies to counting to years 100, 1000, 2000, and 2011.

This change made to my wording is EXACTLY why Wikipedia is not trusted by academics. Nor should it be, with willy-nilly assumption-correctors running amok. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Highsmim (talkcontribs) 19:06, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please take a look at WP:RY for more information and the correct explanation. This has been argued at length and your comments are not correct.
Please also assume good faith when discussing someone's edits. Your comment about "willy-nilly assumption-correctors running amok" is not very civil, nor is it in the spirit of Wikipedia community. Perhaps you should review the comments you made in that paragraph and consider to whom they might apply.
As far as your reason for academia not trusting Wikipedia, that probably has more to do with the fact that the threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is not truth, but rather verifiability.
I have left you a Welcome message on your talk page. I suggest you might want look at the referenced sections including the section called "The five pillars of Wikipedia". By best to you... ttonyb (talk) 19:47, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Tony,I have revised and edited the "Levia" Wiki page and followed all the requested steps, so can I get final approval on it and remove it from the 'deletion' list? Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks.Rollo 01:18, 4 August 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Porchista (talkcontribs)

It still appears to promote a product. Let's let an Admin decide. Good luck... ttonyb (talk) 01:22, 4 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Declined speedy Annette Groves

I declined the speedy to Annette Groves, as being a Canadian municipal politician and regional councilor of Bolton in Caledon, Ontario seemed to show importance. MC10 (TCGBL) 02:05, 4 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the message. Although I don't agree – I looked and found nothing of substance in Google – let's see what happens. If the PROD is removed, I'll probably move it to an AfD. My best to you. ttonyb (talk) 02:09, 4 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hello everyone. I would appreciate any help you could provide me with ensuring this page is not deleted. I am not completely familiar with wikipedia markup but I have tried to do my best. Feel free to take a look at the page as it is now. I have referenced Annette Groves to her Town of Caledon page.(Psd007 (talk) 02:32, 4 August 2010 (UTC))[reply]
The article does not appear to meet the criteria in notability using reliable sources. Basically there is a lack of references that meet the criteria in reliable sources. Take a look at the articles and let me know if you have any questions. In the meantime I will probably move the article to an AfD to get some more input to the article. ttonyb (talk) 02:38, 4 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I have skimmed through the notability section. There is currently an election happening and one of the candidates (Marolyn Morrison) has decided to create a wikipedia page for herself. Marolyn is an important political figure in the GTA of South Ontario. The Annette Groves election team is attempting to create her wiki page in order to show the very important work the Annette has done over the last decade. We would appreciate if you could give us some time to finish making her page (a few days). If at that point the wikipedia community decides that the page does not meet notability criteria, you may feel free to delete it.References from city hall has been added to the page. More are on the way, we just need a few days ti finish making the page.(Psd007 (talk) 02:54, 4 August 2010 (UTC))[reply]
I have gone ahead and moved this to an AfD discussion to get some more eyes on the article. ttonyb (talk) 05:18, 4 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,I think I have corrected the issues on the Donyil Livingston page. Can you explain what else needs changed? Thanks for your help in this matter. TheFightGuy2010 (talk) 03:03, 4 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Thanks for helping out with the Donyil Livingston page. I noticed you removed the citation I had put on there because it was a duplicate in the links. My question is if I would have deleted the one in the Links section and left it in the citation would that have been an acceptable citation? Or do I need to put it somewhere in the body of the page or an inline? Thank you. TheFightGuy2010 (talk) 17:27, 4 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You are welcome. The reason I removed it was the citation did not specifically support something in the article and was not inline. References are generally used to support something said in the article and are attached to that statement. ttonyb (talk) 18:17, 4 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Tony, I'm trying to create this page, I have included the reason's why she is culturally relevant and before you delete can you just help me to figure out what is wrong. I have the external links and internal links correct i think. thank you —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rheppler (talkcontribs) 23:22, 4 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have looked at the article and it fails to provide notability for the individual. In addition there are no reliable sources. Please read the two sections and let me know if you have any questions. ttonyb (talk) 00:22, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of Rawya Ateya from 1997 article

Hi, Ttonyb1. Could you please explain to me why you reverted my addition of Rawya Ateya to the 1997 article? Your edit summary stated that she is "not internationally significant." Being the first woman ever elected in a region of 350 million people makes her pretty significant in my opinion. In fact, the article about her was even included on Wikipedia's main page last March on the occasion of International Women's Day. What makes her less internationally significant than an unnoteworthy American diplomat, an American football player or an American television announcer? The majority of the world's population doesn't follow American football or watch American TV, so if international significance is the criteria for inclusion in the deaths section, then these individuals should be removed too. Regards. --BomBom (talk) 00:44, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, the general guideline that is used for entries to recent years is WP:RY. The article does not have any other project articles. ttonyb (talk) 02:18, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Oretronics

Hi, I'd just like to enquire as to why the Oretronics page has been tagged for deletion, since there isn't any inflammatory information on it? It is necessary that people within this line of interest know WHO is out there. Oretronics isn't just a 'for profit' company, as we also support many charity organisations in it's hometown. Schools benefit from our programmes of recycling IT, thus receiving a discount on their new purchases, etc. Please just let me know what I need to change to not have this page removed, as it would seem highly unfair. Regards. Orescanin (talk) 05:52, 6 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The first place to start is the CSD tags that were left on your article and your talk page. Did you read them? They have the reasons for the deletion in them. Please let me know if you have any questions as a result of your reading them. You mention that the article is necessary for people to know who they are. Wikipedia is not the place to accomplish this, getting the word out about companies is better served by a company website. Wikipedia is for established companies that have achieved Wikipedia based notability using reliable sources. ttonyb (talk) 15:04, 6 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Americano

If you don't belive check it right here, http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005410/ it was first singed by Brian Setzer on the Soprano's soundtrack, Lou Bega has singed that song in 2005 - 2006 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Clauzatarra (talkcontribs) 06:03, 7 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps, but it has no relevance in the article. ttonyb (talk) 06:36, 7 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
