Martin Hairer (born 14 November 1975) is a mathematician working in the field of stochastic analysis, in particular stochastic partial differential equations and statistical mechanics.
In 2008, he was awarded the Whitehead Prize by the London Mathematical Society.[1] In the same year he was also awarded the Philip Leverhulme Prize.[2] In 2009 he received the Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award.
He is currently Professor at the University of Warwick, having previously held positions at the University of Warwick and the Courant Institute of New York University. He received his University education at the University of Geneva, where he obtained his PhD under the supervision of Jean-Pierre Eckmann.
He is an Austrian citizen and fluent in French, German and English; he is married to the Mathematician You-May Leave. His father is Ernst Hairer, a mathematician at the University of Geneva.
His Erdős number is 4.
Under the name HairerSoft, he develops Macintosh software.[3]
