Mapupo Theatre Group

Mapupo Theatre Group was a highly political/pressure group which was formed in Chitungwiza Zimbabwe in February 1991 by Julius Mutyambizi Dewa. It serviced the Civic Society movement of Zimbabwe with alternative media in a highly controlled press enviroment. The pioneered the use of community Dramma in Human Rights Campaigning and has been involed in so many projects from women and gender to voter education. Most of it members have gone on to develop to become luminaries in either politics or arts. Tambaoga a controversial musician and Zanu Pf apologists of the "Blair Toilet" fame was one of the founding actors. Julius Mutyambizi Dewa is a highly respected lawyer and also a politician in Zimbabwe who served in different categories and positions in the MDC party. Other people to note is John Jusa a play write and Director based in Cape Town, South Africa as well as Julius Brother Tendai Terrance who became the youngest board member of a major Organisation in Zimbabwe when he was elected into the ZimRights National Council in 1999 at the age of 22. He later became the first Deputy Regional Organising Secretary for Chitungwiza MDC during its formation. Both Julius and tendai played a very pivital role in the early stages of the formation of the MDC.

Amongst the most known Acts by Mapupo is Fears which was written by Tendai Mutyambizi Dewa in 1998 as a response to the crackdown by the Zimbabwe government on civil society and media after the laucnh of the Zimbabwe war in the DRC. The play was co directed by Julius Mutyambizi Dewa and Ed Bolster a dutch national. It was screened at diferent venues in Harare and Bulawayo and was very previewed by Uppsala University of Sweden who rated it excellent and well presented. Another good paly was another called Cindrella which was wrtten by Last Chiyangwa aka tambaoga and was Directed by both Julius Mutyambizi Dewa and the writer. This play was commissioned in 1993 and ran until October 1994 at its finale showing at Zengeza 1 High school. All in all the play grossed the equivalent of US$20 000.00, a very handsome amount for such acts.

The other act to which mapupo remains proud of is their 1997 production titled Simply Politics. This play was written and directed by Cousin Zilala of ZimRights and was targeted at moving audiences. The uniqueness of this product was that it was made for quick audiences and could be easily done on the road. The play featured fictional political characters abusing power and murdering people. This piece somehow had prophetic genius as it predicted what now happens in zimbabwe where the army and police are so biased towards supressing the opposition.

Actors for Mapupo have varied over time with many new faces appearing in different acts in response to casting needs. However seasoned actors for Mapupo were, Julius MutyambiziDewa, last Chiyangwa,Itai Musonza, Kenneth Saidi(now late) Tendai Mutyambizi, John Jusa, Memory Musonza,Memory,Maringa Thomas, Eddie Chikabudura, Punish Mvere and Martha Mvere (formally of Chitungwiza Progressive).

Recently Mapupo performed at different venues in the UK for an act written by Terrance Mutyambizi named "Seasons" a political dramma with songs and dance about Zimbabwe and Quite diplomacy. Among the actors this time were Ronald Fostrey, Maggie Musemwa and a host of others.

On 30 Januray 2011, julius Mutyambizi Dewa the founder and CEO of the rebranded Mapupo Media launched DEDECA Operara a celebration of 2 decades of Mapupo which will see the Group turning into a Broad Media Interest with different formats of Business Units.

The most successful of all the Mapupo Edition and Acts where under the Directoship of Tendai Mutyambizi Dewa ( 1998-2001in Zimbabwe) it is believed that the Group made a wooping US$ 250 000.00 during this time.

Auden Vilo Warhola born August 17th 1988, is a British-Polish musician, and actor. He is the youngest son of musician, Ian Brown, and model, musician, and actress Kasia Borge. He is the younger brother of iconic musician Naum Warhola, actor Lev Warhola, and model, TV Host Ash Stymest. Currently Auden is the lead singer of the British band, You Me At Six. His best mates are actors, Robert Pattinson, and Tom Sturridge.

In 2010, Warhola was charged with allegedly assaulting a female fan, but through numerous statements from the bands publicist, and Auden himself, the charges against him are false, and no action toward a fan was ever made. He is currently awaiting trial, to take place in March of 2011.
