The PuLi Hotel and Spa is a luxury hotel in China that is located in Jing'an District, Shanghai, between NanJing West Road and Yan An Road. The PuLi Hotel and Spa is the first hotel of Urban Resort Concepts and is the sixth member hotel of The Leading Hotels of the World[2] in China. On March 2010, the hotel has been included in Design Hotels network as a member hotel.

Urban Resort Concepts is a brand created by Zeitgeist Projects.[3] The hotel restaurant, Jing'An Restaurant is located on the second floor while other hotel facilities, including gymnasium, sauna, steam rooms, jacuzzi, swimming pool and the hotel's spa operated by Anantara Spa Group, are located on the third floor.

The Chinese name of The PuLi Hotel and Spa (Chinese: 璞麗酒店 Pinyin: pú lì jiŭ diàn) literally represents as beautiful (麗[4]) un-carved gem (璞[5]).

The hotel logo is inspired by a phoenix and the flame tree (Chinese: 鳳凰树, literally "phoenix tree")[6].

Architecture and Designs

The interiors of hotel's public areas, guest-rooms, as well as garden and landscape around the hotel are designed by Australian design firm Layan Design Group[7] and Indonesian design firm Jaya & Associates. The hotel lighting is designed by Australian lighting design firm The Flaming Beacon.[8]

Bamboo block planting and shallow reflection ponds are used for the hotel's landscaping. In the hotel lobby, a 32-meter solid Teak bar is used as reception desk, concierge as well as bar (called Long Bar). Next to the main lobby, there is a library with bookshelves that is 5.0m high with collections of over 2,500 books and with a fireplace in size of 290 cm width by 109 cm height by 72 cm depth.

There is a collection of paintings by artist Li Jing Bin[9] (李景斌 1970–) in the hotel lobby commissioned by the hotel.[citation needed] The drawings outlining the female body are pierced by a fragment of blue and white porcelain. Another collection of paintings by artist Yi-Zhou[10] (一舟 1968–) is located in Jing'An Restaurant.

Different artifacts such as a brass incense burner, timber foo dogs, stoneware headrest, porcelain plate, and bronze mirror can also be found in the hotel.[citation needed]

The library has a collection of over 2,500 English and Chinese books including The collected Lu Xun manuscripts of works (鲁迅著作手稿全集) (publisher: Fujian Education Publisher, published: November 1999, Edition: No. 1820 edition in 2000 limited editions.) and Chinese Antique Handbook (古玩宝典) (published by BS Book Publisher).[citation needed]
