Reginald John Mickel (born August 1953) is an Australian politician. Born in Murgon, Queensland, he attended the University of Queensland where he studied literature and education. In 1979 he joined the Australian Labor Party, and was an advisor to federal MP David Beddall. He was later a Senior Advisor to Queensland Premier Wayne Goss, and to Health Minister (later Opposition Leader) Peter Beattie. In 1998, he was elected to the Queensland Legislative Assembly himself as the Labor member for Logan. He was a minister in various portfolios from 2004 to 2009, including transport, environment and state development, but was dropped from the ministry after Labor's re-election in the 2009 state election. Mickel is married with three children. He is currently Speaker of the Legislative Assembly.[1]
