Digimon Masters (디지몬 마스터즈, デジモンマスターズ) is a free to play micro-transaction supported MMORPG in a setting based on that of the Digimon media franchise, specifically the universe and characters of the fifth anime series, Digimon Data Squad (though many aspects of Digimon Adventure 02, Digimon Tamers and Digimon Frontier are incorporated into the game). The game was first released in South Korea, and an English version was scheduled to be released in December, 2010 by WeMade Entertainment (the same company responsible for the English Version of Digimon Battle), but it was delayed to 2011.[1]

Gameplay

Players control an avatar of one of the four main characters of Digimon Data Squad: Marcus Damon, Thomas H. Norstein, Yoshino Fujieda, and Keenan Crier. The players are not intended to be representing the actual characters, and thus are allowed to choose their own name and modify their appearance to some extent. Players then choose a "partner Digimon." The partner Digimon selected is one of the four used by Masaru, Thomas, Yoshino and Ikuto in Data Squad: Agumon, Gaomon, Lalamon or Falcomon. Regardless, the player chooses a partner Digimon, which they use in battle and accomplish NPC-given missions, the player may also hatch new digimon from digitama dropped by wild digimon. Over the course of the game, partner and mercenary Digimon will digivolve into stronger forms (some of which may require special items or quests to unlock) and learn new skills.

Mercenary System

The only way to obtain a mercenary digimon is to hatch it (Digitamas are obtainable from fallen foes). In order to hatch a Digitama, DATA (a.k.a chips) are necessary for feeding the Digitama. However, the digitama can also break after one or several attempts, 3 bars filled out of 5 bars is the minimum requirement for the mercenary to be born (The player can also try to raise the bar to 4 or 5 maximum, but the digitama will probably explode due to the extremely low rates of success) NOTE: More bars filled = Higher digimon growth. The alternate way to hatch a digitama is to buy it from the cash shop using real money, the digitama bought from the cash shop has 100% rate of success for at least 3 bars, when digitama is being scanned can also come up with 4 or 5 bars with 100% success rate, but chances for 4 and 5 are lower, however 100% success rate for 3 bars are guaranteed.

Battle System

Battling is done in real-time. At all times the player's currently selected partner digimon follows them. The player initiates combat by clicking on the selected enemy. The player's digimon then approaches the enemy and immediately performs it's standard attack. The player's digimon has a health bar measuring health and a digisoul meter. The digisoul meter measures how much energy the digimon has to use special attacks. When empty the digimon can only use standard attacks. While in combat tamers are able to use items that restore health and digisoul but must wait several seconds before being able to again.

There is a tool bar running along the bottom of the player's screen with two columns. The first has a small thumbnail of the digimon and clickable icons for the digimon's special attacks. As the player levels up they have access to more attacks. The second column has a small thumbnail of the player and clickable icons for telling the digimon to: attack, run away, stop attacking but not run away, and pick up dropped items.

Unlike Digimon RPG combat takes place in real time with nearby players able to watch and even join in on battles.

Evolution System

Growth Evolution and Quest Evolution

All digimon have evolution tree. After level up, users can accomplish quest to open the evolution. If users accomplish the quest or reach to evolution limit, the evolution tree is automatically open. When the evolution tree is open, user can develop their digimon by using tamer’s Digi-soul.

Crest Evolution and Digimental Evolution

There are 11 sorts of crest and digimental, but only 10 sorts of them are used in this game. Each of crest matches each digimental. Crest is used to open one of the evolution tree. After compounding some pieces, it is consumed for ‘evolution open’. Digimental is for evolution to the opened one.

Dark Evolution

Dark evolution is evolving to [Dark evolution form] using [Dark Item]. Not only it has much more battle power than other evolution form in same level, but also it is able to use all skills in spite of not being proper level up. As this evolution method is to extremes, it has serious aftermath when degraded which is not being able to evolve for a certain period of time.

Matrix Evolution and Spirit Evolution

Hybrid evolution means that tamers are changed to Digimon.

There are 2 types of [Spirit evolution form] by spirit and [Matrix evolution form] by being together with Partner Digimon. However, users can’t take other digimon in this case.

  • 1. Spirit evolution form: There are 20 kinds of spirit, all experience are applied to only the spirit.
  • 2. Matrix evolution form: users must to take matrix evolution tree, all experience are taken by tamer and digimon together.
